I am pleased to learn Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham appointed Porter Swentzell, of Santa Clara, as a Northern New Mexico College regent. As a former faculty member (director of learning resources) at the University of New Mexico Northern New Mexico Branch College, in Santa Cruz, 1977, I strongly support this appointment.
This is a first and one of the most important regent appointments at Northern in my lifetime. This appointment makes complete and long-awaited sense (over 40 years) in our community.
From an equal and diverse academic perspective this appointment will strengthen the future of our College, and hopefully it will extend and grow in our greater community. Most importantly, this appointment will benefit the student, faculty and community population of our region and it will strengthen the diversity, historical and cultural representation of higher education in the future.
My thanks to Tim Crone and other community activists for their dedication to Northern.
