Former New Mexico School for the Deaf basketball player and incoming Northern New Mexico College recruit Deven Thompson competes at the 2019 New Mexico High School Coaches Association’s All-Star basketball series on June 1 at Valley High School in Albuquerque. Thompson will be the first deaf player to participate in athletics at Northern, prompting the College to prepare to initiate contracts between the Community Outreach Program for the Deaf to secure ASL interpreters for Thompson’s academic and basketball schedules. Northern head coach Ryan Cordova has also started learning sign language in preparation for Thompson’s arrival.
