A man was arrested Monday after deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked on Private Drive 1301 in Española.
The black Honda had been idling since before dawn and there was a person inside, according to a press release from the Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies responded to the call at 2 p.m. and found a man and woman sleeping in the front seats of the car. The driver was identified as Eugene Vigil, and the passenger was Brittany Garmaker.
Deputies also found a handgun between the center console and the driver’s seat and an AK-47 on the driver’s floorboard, the press release said.
“After securing the scene, deputies removed both individuals from the vehicle and conducted a search,” the release said. “They found multiple glass pipes and white powdery substances on the front seats, along with a glass measuring cup containing a white solid and liquid, which Mr. Vigil claimed was crack cocaine.”
Upon further investigation, additional white substances were found in the center console and a black bag was found in the backseat, which had cash and more drugs inside. A small scale and various substances were also found on the front passenger floorboard.
A subsequent search warrant of Vigil’s house uncovered more drugs, money, and guns. He faces charges for the manufacture and trafficking of controlled substances.
“Kudos to Deputy Marcus Martinez, Adam Archuleta, and all the deputies who played a crucial role in this operation,” the press release said
