While reading the Rio Grande Sun I came across an article about Mayor Joseph Maestas. I was surprised that the newspaper asked if the mayor was a deadbeat dad. My concern is not the title given to the mayor, but more importantly, will the mayor be held to the same standard as the rest of us in the community.
Non-custodial parents need to be held accountable at the same level; no one parent should be given special treatment. I hope the judge in the Maestas case holds the mayor to the same standards as the rest of us are.
In my opinion, Mayor Maestas should be held at a high level because of his position in the community. If you want to lead your community, first you must lead by example, and Mayor Maestas you are setting the wrong example.
It saddens me to know that many fathers in out community are not responsible for their children. Keep in mind you’re not hurting anyone but your children. Please, fathers, do your duty and help take care of your children.
