Police Blotter: Driving the Streets Like It’s the Indy 500

The police blotter is published to give readers an abridged look at criminal activity in their community and neighborhood. It is simply an illustration of what local law enforcement, funded by taxpayers, must deal with daily throughout the Española Valley.

Española Police officers, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies or State Police responded to the following calls:

June 5

7:18 a.m. An officer helped unload a casket through the back door at Rivera Funeral Home.

8:41 a.m. A woman reported her truck was stolen. A deputy found it wrecked into a tree and abandoned.

9:18 a.m. A woman was asking for money at the Ohkay gas station and tried to get into a semi truck.

10:13 a.m. A caller said his uncle slapped his 12-year-old son across the face yesterday and he wants to file a report.

10:22 a.m. A Hernandez caller heard a bang on her roof but didn’t see anything. She said she has dogs but they didn’t bark because “they are too busy being puppies and acting crazy.”

12:50 p.m. A woman was at the Rio Arriba Health Commons and said there was blood all over and she was hurt.

3:01 p.m. A DNCU employee said there was a member there on the phone with a man who said he kidnapped his daughter and wants him to go to the nearest Western Union and send money. The man initially wanted $2,500 but lowered the amount to $1,700 and asked the other man to meet at Walmart.

3:49 p.m. A Chamita caller requested help to get her cat off the roof because it’s been there for the past three days.

4:12 p.m. A caller reported a shirtless man at Valdez Park was talking to himself and dancing.

4:30 p.m. A caller said a shirtless man at Valdez Park seemed high and kept staring at their children.

5:07 p.m. A man was messing with the landscape at Victory Faith Church and possibly destroying it.

5:18 p.m. A Lucero Center caller wanted a man removed because they said he was high on something.

6:06 p.m. A Chimayó caller said there’s a big guy in the house and he doesn’t know him.

10:18 p.m. A Medanales caller got a text from the neighbor, saying someone broke into the house they are building.

June 6

12:03 a.m. A deputy assisted a New Mexico State Police officer in looking for an unconscious woman in Alcalde.

1:34 a.m. A Velarde caller said her son is possibly on drugs, is being aggressive and is throwing things around the house.

9:45 a.m. Six needles were picked up on Road Runner in Ohkay Owingeh.

10:03 a.m. Two needles were picked up on Chico Plain in Ohkay Owingeh.

10:07 a.m. A La Mesilla caller said some dogs damaged his truck while chasing cats.

10:21 a.m. Three needles were picked up in Hernandez.

11:10 a.m. A Hernandez caller said she keeps trying to leave and her neighbor keeps hitting her car.

11:11 a.m. A West Calle Jose Pablo caller said her boyfriend is not responding or breathing. One dose of Narcan was administered, however the man died.

11:35 a.m. A Villa del Norte Apartments caller wanted a woman in the parking lot removed because she was yelling and being disorderly and vulgar.

12:28 p.m. A Chamita caller reported stock tanks are missing from his property.

3:30 a.m., two people slashed three tires on their company vehicle and they want to file a report.

2:26 p.m. A man was trying to fight with people at Speedway.

3:57 p.m. A man wearing unpurchased merchandise fled Walmart and walked toward Lowe’s.

4:03 p.m. An assault was reported on Camino de Roberto and a woman had bite marks and other injuries.

4:27 p.m. A Speedway caller said a man stole the phone off her desk and fled.

4:30 p.m. A La Mesilla caller reported a man was beating a woman. He had her on the ground and was hitting and choking her.

5:23 p.m. A caller said a group of minors were drinking from a whiskey bottle.

7:19 p.m. A drunk man was walking in and out of the road and falling into traffic on the Santa Clara Bridge.

8:26 p.m. An Alcalde caller reported their daughter is unconscious and foaming at the mouth.

9:39 p.m. A man was getting aggressive with Walmart security in the parking lot after he was asked to leave.

9:56 p.m. A Po Pay Avenue caller said their daughter is out of control and very drunk, throwing things around the house.

10:21 p.m. A Dixon caller reported people tried to steal a bike from the property.

10:28 p.m. A Calle Chavez caller thinks the neighbors locked someone in a bedroom; they can hear someone yelling “let me out.”

10:41 p.m. A Hernandez caller said a man was running from her yard when she got home. A deputy found there was forced entry into the house but nothing was taken.

Midnight A North Monterey Lane caller reported being attacked at his girlfriend’s birthday party.

1:17 a.m. A La Mesilla caller said a neighbor is playing loud music on a Razr and it’s shaking their house.

2:51 a.m. A Calle de las Yuccas caller reported the neighbor came to the door and is harassing him.

8:28 a.m. An ambulance was called for a man at the Ohkay Casino who was in and out of consciousness and kept falling over. Narcan was administered.

8:35 a.m. A man was walking near Ranchitos Park and was carrying some type of wire.

9:38 a.m. A Vallecitos caller said a man in a camper was not breathing. The caller phoned again and said the man was dead.

10:38 a.m. A man and woman were arguing on the Ohkay Casino floor.

10:44 a.m. A drunk man was inside Burger King and refusing to leave.

12:24 p.m. A man fell while rock climbing near Ghost Ranch.

3:56 p.m. A Walmart employee said a drunk man drove his pickup into a bay in the automotive area and was trying to change his own oil. He left before police arrived.

4:07 p.m. A caller reported his neighbor is harassing him, yelling and cussing and pointed what he thinks was an air rifle at him.

5:04 p.m. A fight was reported at the Dollar General in Alcalde.

5:42 p.m. A Chamita caller wanted to report someone who was buying alcohol for minors. They said the person has a system in which the minors put money in a mailbox and the man replaces it with alcohol.

6:15 p.m. A McCracken Lane caller said a man and a woman in a car are naked and might be smoking fentanyl.

7:31 p.m. A veterans sign was damaged on Santa Clara Bridge Road and South Riverside Drive.

7:47 p.m. An overdose was reported on Tortilla Flats. One dose of Narcan was administered.

9:59 p.m. A man walked into the Española Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest and refused to say where it happened.

10:03 p.m. A man was walking around Guachupangue Road acting strange and pushing a dolly. Another caller said he confronted the man who responded by saying, “this is going to get fun.”

11:57 p.m. A man’s death was reported in Velarde.

June 8

2:23 a.m. An officer helped Santa Fe County Sheriff’s deputies pursue a wrong-way driver at Red Hawk Court and South Riverside Drive.

6:45 a.m. A Medanales Post Office caller reported a truck was peeling out and “driving the streets like it’s the Indy 500.”

6:50 a.m. An Ohkay Tribal Lakes caller said the lock to the gate is broken and is no longer secure.

9:07 a.m. A woman on Avenida Cañada was unconscious. One dose of Narcan was administered.

9:26 a.m. A Coyote caller said someone broke into their home office and took everything.

9:51 a.m. A caller in Cordova reported finding a vehicle with what appears to be blood stains.

12:14 p.m. A Hernandez caller said her father picked up a prostitute and is giving her a ride.

1:47 p.m. A caller reported dropping his phone about an hour ago. He went to the Verizon store and they tracked it to a house behind the Union Hall.

2:44 p.m. A Giant employee said a woman went into the store and claimed she worked for Speedway and needed to look at their prices. She then opened a drawer and may have taken money.

3:03 p.m. A caller reported his girlfriend called and said she was going to take all her pills. He got home and found her in bed, going in and out of consciousness.

3:08 p.m. A 420 Emporia employee said a woman is arguing with her and refusing to leave.

5:02 p.m. A caller reported her father is being verbally abusive and told her to go hang herself. She also said there’s a prostitute there. The responding officer found the caller to be very drunk.

5:33 p.m. A vehicle in the Ohkay Casino parking lot had drugs and paraphernalia in the backseat. The officer trespassed the two people in the vehicle for 72 hours and gave them a verbal warning about the paraphernalia.

5:45 p.m. A caller reported her ex violated a restraining order at Walmart by talking to her and her son.

7:33 p.m. A 9-year-old was thrown from an ATV in Alcalde and had head trauma.

9:06 p.m. A caller reported her dad is drunk driving and she’s in the vehicle with him.

10:05 p.m. A caller said his girlfriend is very drunk, won’t let him go to bed and is throwing things at him.

2:27 a.m. A woman’s death was reported on Indian Way.

3:07 a.m. A man was hitting a woman and pulling her hair in the middle of Camino Cielo Grande.

4:10 a.m. An Old Hospital Road caller said the neighbor dogs got out of an open gate and a man was attacked and bitten by a pitbull.

8:22 a.m. A Dixon caller reported that for the last three or four months, a drone has been flying over and hovers above her property for 10 minutes or so.

8:46 a.m. A Starbucks caller said a homeless woman is littering on the side of the building and making sexual comments to customers.

10:36 a.m. A woman went to EPD to file a report because her husband is harassing her.

12:11 p.m. A caller reported the neighbors are throwing their weeds in the arroyo next to theirs.

1:10 p.m. A Burger King caller said two men are in the lobby and one has his pants down and customers are complaining.

2:24 p.m. A Burger King caller reported a “crackhead” is outside harassing customers and employees.

2:26 p.m. A Hernandez caller said someone broke into her house and beat her with a rope then choked her until she passed out.

3:27 p.m. A man went to EPD because he was at Harbor Freight and a man threatened to beat him and was yelling at him.

4:46 p.m. A caller said he went outside with his phone and the neighbor came out and started chasing him with a bat.

5:06 p.m. A man’s death was reported at Western Winds Motel.

7:34 p.m. Multiple homeless people were fighting and pushing each other near Rue 21.

10:39 p.m. A Truchas caller said her father hit her and it feels like her nose is broken.

12:33 a.m. A Calle del Sol caller reported someone in a truck outside her house keeps harassing her.

6:48 a.m. A break-in was reported on North Riverside Drive.

9:31 a.m. A North McCurdy Road caller said there’s graffiti all over her wall.

10:10 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a girl in Hernandez that was walking on the side of the road and appeared to be about 8-years-old.

10:55 a.m. A Calle Serrano caller said a man went to her house and violated a restraining order she had against him.

11:23 a.m. A caller received an SOS message from a woman who slipped down a steep embankment and hit her head and hurt her hip.

11:25 a.m. A passerby reported about six homeless people smoking drugs outside of Chili’s.

11:46 a.m. A woman went to EPD to file a report for a fraudulent check.

12:04 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man passed out in a car at Walmart. They tried honking to wake him up.

1:51 p.m. A State Road 76 caller reported a man in Corvette is tearing up her driveway by doing donuts and peeling out.

2:24 p.m. A BOLO was issued in the Española area for a man wanted for murder in Red River.

4:26 p.m. An overdose was reported in Tierra Amarilla.

4:31 p.m. An overdose was reported in Chama. Three doses of Narcan were administered.

5:09 p.m. An overdose was reported on Sotero Lane. The man took fentanyl and one dose of Narcan was administered.

6:57 p.m. People were fighting in the road and throwing rocks on State Road 76.

7:03 p.m. A Kentucky Fried Chicken caller said one person was behind the building, in the trees, trying to start a fire.

7:13 p.m. A Vallecitos caller reported people are firing weapons and hitting his house.

8:07 p.m. A Chimayó caller said a man on a motorcycle is parked by her gate, revving the engine and shooting a handgun.

8:17 p.m. A Little Caesar’s caller reported a homeless man is trying to fight with an employee.

8:31 p.m. A caller near Rivera Family Funeral Home sounded drunk but said seven people are chasing him.

11:53 p.m. A caller in receiving at the Dollar General in Española saw someone in the store; the person went out the stockroom door.

12:37 a.m. A Calle Flores caller reported someone was trying to break in through his back door.

4:19 a.m. A Calle del Sol caller said someone in a truck shot at her house.

6:23 a.m. A Valley Drive caller reported a man was lying in the middle of their driveway.

8:48 a.m. A caller said there was a big bull headed toward the highway on Riverside Drive and Esparza Lane.

9:31 a.m. A La Mesilla caller reported someone was taking things from her property.

10:26 a.m. A person went to EPD to report a robbery on Santa Clara Bridge last night.

1:34 p.m. Three people were drinking behind Center Market and were dispersed.

1:56 p.m. A Medanales caller said a NMDOT vehicle hit her vehicle.

2:11 p.m. A State Road 369 caller reported her son and dad were walking with their dog when a vehicle ran over the dog and drove off.

2:37 p.m. A person was setting up a tent in the dugout at Ranchitos Park.

3:01 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a shoe-less woman walking on the side of the road near the Santa Cruz Country Store. She told the responding officer that she was going to a friend’s house in Chimayó.

3:31 p.m. A caller requested that several people in the dugouts at Ranchitos Park be dispersed.

3:40 p.m. A Fairview Lane caller reported a woman has a stroller full of items and is walking toward the Dollar Tree.

3:43 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a woman on North McCurdy Road and Dakota Lane who had blood on her face and a gash on her head.

4:14 p.m. A West Calle Rosario caller said a woman was going through their trash can.

5:10 p.m. A South Kiva Lane and South McCurdy Road caller wanted officers to check on a vehicle that left the area with a woman in the backseat who looked “out of it.”

5:59 p.m. A Truchas caller reported her nephew is stealing her trailer backhoe attachment.

6:01 p.m. A San Pedro Sonic caller said there’s a man in a car passed out in the drive-thru.

6:06 p.m. A deputy stopped to check on a man riding a lawnmower on State Road 162 in Tierra Amarilla.

6:08 p.m. A Birch Lane caller said her son is at her house, threatening to physically fight family members and might be under the influence.

6:14 p.m. An overdose was reported on Rio Del Oso Street in Chama. Four doses of Narcan were administered.

6:33 p.m. A Hernandez caller heard what they thought was a machine gun.

6:46 p.m. A Chama caller saw a man take wood into a display log cabin and he thinks he might try to burn the wood.

7:24 p.m. A woman was banging on the doors of the chapel at the Sacred Heart Church and trying to get in.

8:26 p.m. A person was bleeding and another was irate at Kentucky Fried Chicken.

8:32 p.m. A Chamita caller reported an SUV is following her.

8:52 p.m. A Chama caller said he just got home and found the door open.

11:15 p.m. A caller reported his car got stuck as he was looking for a house on County Road 140.
