(SUNfoto by Lou Mattei) Española Police officer George Smith (left) and emergency medical and fire personnel were dispatched July 28 to the Apple Valley Apartments on Railroad Avenue for a 911 report of a possible suicide. The call turned out to be less serious, according to Sgt. Jeff Martinez, who also responded to the call, but proved something of a mystery. Martinez said the man inside the ambulance, whose shirt and face were covered with blood and who Martinez described as “out of it,” refused to say anything to officers or to identify himself. “We think maybe he fell down some stairs, but he’s not saying anything, so it’s just one of those things,” Martinez said. “We don’t think he got beat up or anything.”
