Police Blotter: KFC Employee Needs the Chicken Rack Back

The police blotter is published to give readers an abridged look at criminal activity in their community and neighborhood. It is simply an illustration of what local law enforcement, funded by taxpayers, must deal with daily throughout the Española Valley.

Suspicious Shirtless Man

Sept. 25

1:20 a.m. A woman was standing outside El Valle Insurance and said she was involved in an altercation on County Road 136A.

3 a.m. The alarm at the methadone clinic was activated and motion was detected inside.

3:08 a.m. A caller reported her husband is suicidal and is somewhere near the river.

6:58 a.m. An SUV hit a mountainside in Velarde.

8:12 a.m. A student at Chama Middle School had a vape.

8:45 a.m. A Hernandez caller said her boyfriend stole her purse and prescription medication.

9:36 a.m. A caller reported a campfire west of the Fairview Bridge.

9:58 a.m. A caller said a driver in a vehicle is in the middle of the road and in and out of consciousness.

10:42 a.m. A student at Mesa Vista High School was in possession of oxycodone.

10:53 a.m. A Domino’s pizza caller said a man fell and hit his head.

11:08 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a woman sitting on the corner of County Road 119 and County Road 120 in La Mesilla, with a sign that says “help.” The woman told a deputy that she was waiting for a ride.

11:17 a.m. A N.M. Gas Depot caller in Lybrook said someone cut the fence and stole equipment and it’s been an ongoing issue.

11:23 a.m. A death was reported on Fish Pond Lane.

11:25 a.m. A walk-in report for assault was taken at RASO.

1:52 a.m. A caller said a man is walking near Walgreens and carrying a big, brown UPS box.

1:54 p.m. A Hernandez caller reported his neighbor is cutting trees on his property and leaving the branches on his side of the fence.

2:39 p.m. A Speedway caller wanted to file a report because an associate stole $3,000 from the store.

3:44 p.m. A Velarde caller said a cat in his yard attacked his son.

3:56 p.m. A Tsigo Bugeh Road caller reported a man accidentally cut his finger with a knife.

3:58 p.m. A Velarde caller said he hired two people to help him pack and move and they went back and stole all his belongings and are using his identity.

4:06 p.m. Two people were held by an officer at gunpoint after they tried to get into a house on Ash Loop.

4:22 p.m. A man was down by Wendy’s and another man was performing CPR.

5:40 p.m. A caller said when she went to check on her father’s property on North McCurdy Road, she discovered items were stolen and the shed was damaged.

5:57 p.m. A Cordova caller reported her caregiver is beating her up. The caregiver could be heard in the background saying the caller wants drugs.

6:19 p.m. An ATV accident was reported in Coyote and the person riding the ATV was lying in a field.

6:36 p.m. New Mexico State Police pursued a stolen vehicle near the Rio Chama Chevron.

8:32 p.m. A Velarde caller reported a shirtless man is walking around. They said he’s not doing anything, they just think it’s suspicious.

10:25 p.m. A Velarde caller said a man is harassing someone in the area.

 

Shoplifting With Baby

Sept. 26

12:24 a.m. A caller reported a drunk man is unconscious in the parking lot at the Ohkay Casino.

6:58 a.m. A Champion car wash caller said there’s about $5,000 in damage to the vacuum system and they want to file a report.

7:28 a.m. A man pointed a gun at someone on La Joya Street and Pheasant Lane.

7:36 a.m. A Las Lomas Apartments caller said her ex-boyfriend is mixing antivans with tequila and might be snorting antivans.

9:24 a.m. A Calle Ranchitos caller reported a package was stolen from her house.

9:45 a.m. An Española Middle School assistant principal got a call from the father of a student, saying the child’s mother threatened to kill the child and him.

11:26 a.m. A caller reported someone is taking her mail from her mailbox on Private Drive 1340.

1:34 p.m. A single-vehicle rollover was reported in Dixon.

1:35 p.m. A Chimayó caller said her granddaughter is getting in her face and smashing dishes.

3:24 p.m. A Coyote caller reported a man on a 4-wheeler threw a bottle at their vehicle and broke the passenger side mirror.

4:19 p.m. A caller said they overheard two people talking about stealing from the Dollar General in Hernandez.

6:38 p.m. A woman’s death was reported in Hernandez.

7:36 p.m. A North Orchard Lane caller heard a big bang and said now everything is covered in water.

8:36 p.m. A Walgreens caller reported a couple with a baby tried to shoplift, then threatened employees before leaving in a vehicle.

9:26 p.m. A caller said a vehicle ran through a fence and destroyed the bleachers at Ranchitos Park and now people are messing with the bleachers.

9:31 p.m. A Lyden caller reported a man followed him home and jumped out of his car and stabbed the hood of the caller’s vehicle, then tried to attack him through the window.

10:09 p.m. A Calle Duran caller said a group of teens is making a lot of noise and drinking at a house nearby.

10:40 p.m. Officers were in a pursuit in Velarde.

11:01 p.m. A Chimayó caller reported a 6-year-old boy had a nightmare and his grandma is yelling at him.

11:04 p.m. A Middle San Pedro Road caller said someone is opening mailboxes and looking in them.

 

Check on the ‘Tweaker’

Sept. 27

5:13 a.m. A caller said there are homeless people with tents on the side of Speedway.

8:19 a.m. A Wendy’s caller reported a man and woman sold drugs to a person, who left on foot.

10:47 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man lying in the middle of the road near Dandy’s Burgers. An officer said the man is a streets worker and was lying down, trying to open the cap on the road.

12:22 p.m. A panhandler was reported at Center Market.

12:38 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man who’s tweaking out near State Road 76 and North Riverside Drive.

1 p.m. A Coyote caller said a horse stepped on her husband and she’s trying to get him in the car to take him to El Centro Clinic.

8:19 p.m. A Classic Auto Sales caller reported a man is sleeping in a dump truck behind the building.

10:38 p.m. A Calle Duran caller said someone tried to break into his neighbor’s vehicle.

Sept. 28

7:11 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a woman who was trying to get out of her window at Villa del Norte Apartments and is now hanging there.

9:26 a.m. A Chimayó caller said her ex-boyfriend attacked her after she broke up with him last night. He threw water on her this morning and grabbed her and threw her around.

11:04 a.m. A Medanales caller reported her vehicle was stolen. She got a flat tire the previous night, got an Uber to a hotel and when she went to get her vehicle, it was gone and there was glass on the ground.

12:44 p.m. An Alcalde caller said someone took her cameras from her property.

1:53 p.m. A caller reported an SUV is parked at Walmart and the person inside is selling puppies with a sign that says, “If you buy a puppy, you get a blowie for a free.” The responding officer said they were selling puppies, but there was no sign that said that.

2:44 p.m. A deputy found a stolen vehicle in an arroyo in Abiquiú.

3:24 p.m. A man was yelling at Metro PCS employees and threatening to break their merchandise and windows.

3:36 p.m. A woman was overdosing on fentanyl at the McDonald’s drive-thru entrance.

6:12 p.m. A Calle de Amor caller said someone broke in and stole his trailer.

6:22 p.m. A caller reported a girl was told by a friend that a student wanted to shoot up the school.

8:03 p.m. A house near the Dollar General in Hernandez was on fire.

8:19 p.m. A caller reported an SUV is parked on a public street and he can see the occupants doing drugs. He threatened to pull a gun on them.

11:37 p.m. A stolen vehicle was found on Barrancos Road.

 

Setting up Camp

Sept. 29

8:40 a.m. A Chimayó Elementary caller wanted to report that a student took a knife to school on Friday.

10:24 a.m. A caller wanted to report child neglect because a child went to school with very low oxygen and an untreated, infected toe.

11:26 a.m. A Hindi Road caller said someone is stealing from a house.

12:08 p.m. A caller reported her phone was stolen and put in the kiosk at Walmart.

12:15 p.m. A Camino Consuelo caller said a drunk man in a truck is driving on his property and they blocked the man in.

2:03 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a 7-year-old boy that has not been in school since Sept. 18.

3:21 p.m. A Valdez Drive caller said someone shot at them with a handgun.

4:24 p.m. A Dairy Queen caller requested the “riff raff” behind her building be removed. She said four homeless people with trash and a dog were behind the building and refusing to leave.

5:11 p.m. A caller said there were homeless people setting up camp behind the old Rio Grande SUN building.

9:34 p.m. A Camino Cielo Grande caller reported people were trespassing on his property and tried to get into his house.

 

Rude Neighbor

Sept. 30

7:48 a.m. A caller said there were three transients by the gas pumps at Murphy’s Express and they wanted them dispersed.

9:44 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a child that has not been in school. The parents said he’s been sick and they will contact the school.

10:06 a.m. A Kentucky Fried Chicken caller said homeless people in a tent stole her chicken rack yesterday and she needs it back.

11:57 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on her friend because she hasn’t heard from him since Friday. The man was found unconscious, not breathing and cold to the touch; the Office of the Medical Investigator was called.

12:54 p.m. A Dixon caller said the neighbor tried to run her off the road.

1:30 p.m. A caller reported a freshman at Española Valley High School was in possession of suboxone. The 14-year-old admitted to ingesting the drug.

1:40 p.m. A man went to RASO to report a cyber breach to his payroll account.

2:23 p.m. A Dairy Queen caller said a 15-year-old is carrying a handgun. It turned out to be a fake gun painted black.

3:15 p.m. A caller reported a vehicle was passing in a no passing zone on State Road 76 and ran an RTD bus off the road.

3:35 p.m. A Camino Santa Cruz caller said a man was in her yard, cutting her roses and refusing to leave.

3:56 p.m. A man on U.S. Highway 550 was throwing rocks at vehicles.

4:03 p.m. A bus driver told someone at Victory Faith Church that someone shot at them with a paintball gun and broke the window.

9:11 p.m. A caller reported a man threatened employees at 420 Emporia, then ran north.

 

Scared by a Man

Oct. 1

12:55 a.m. A man was overdosing on the side of the Treasure of Enchantment building. Narcan was administered.

6:28 a.m. A U.S. Highway 64/84 caller said a vehicle with blue flashing lights is following him and trying to pull him over.

8:03 a.m. A Cañones caller reported dogs were in his yard, attacking his chickens.

9:56 a.m. A Dairy Queen caller wanted homeless people removed from behind the building because they are leaving trash everywhere.

10:20 a.m. A State Road 369 caller reported a house was broken into sometime overnight.

10:46 a.m. A man went to EPD to file a report on a girl who was making false reports on his son.

10:49 a.m. A Dollar Tree in Española caller said their deposits were stolen last night.

11:52 a.m. A Kentucky Fried Chicken caller reported three homeless people are in a tent behind the building.

2:44 p.m. A man was detained on Calle Jose Trujillo and North Riverside Drive after a foot pursuit.

3:21 p.m. A La Mesilla caller said the neighbor’s dogs are jumping the fence and chasing her children.

4:28 p.m. A Speedway caller reported a man was doing drugs by the front door.

4:58 p.m. A North Paseo de Oñate caller said a group of homeless people are setting up tents along her fence.

4:06 p.m. An El Parasol caller reported a woman tried to jump over the fence.

5:08 p.m. A caller said he found his cousin’s ex-girlfriend hung on the property.

5:19 p.m. A caller reported a car wrecked into a tree in front of Holy Cross Church.

5:21 p.m. A Dollar Tree caller said a woman is lying on the ground near the gas station and two people are shaking her, but she won’t wake up.

7:08 p.m. A caller reported she and a friend were hanging out at Valdez Park and her boyfriend began punching at her.

8:15 p.m. An El Llano Road caller heard two shots fired.

8:56 p.m. A Fairview Sonic caller said a man is harassing them over a money dispute.

9 p.m. A Lucero Center caller reported a man approached her and scared her.

9:17 p.m. A death notification was delivered to a home in Alcalde.

11:20 p.m. An East Roman Drive caller said the neighbors are fighting and have guns.

11:45 p.m. A possible trash can fire behind the bleachers at Lucero Center was reported.
