Police Blotter: Man Can See Devils From His Window

The police blotter is published to give readers an abridged look at criminal activity in their community and neighborhood. It is simply an illustration of what local law enforcement, funded by taxpayers, must deal with daily throughout the Española Valley.

 Española Police officers, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies or State Police responded to the following calls:

  

Late night ruckus at shoe store

July 3

12:20 a.m. A caller reported underage drinking and lots of noise coming from the shoe store by Food King.

6:30 a.m. A Chama caller said a man overdosed an hour ago and was given chest compressions and Narcan. Now his chest hurts and he fell and hit his head and wants to be checked.

8:10 a.m. An Ohkay Owingeh police officer requested the Sheriff’s Office to respond to the Ohkay Travel Center because there were two women with drugs who had children with them.

8:45 a.m. A Burger King caller reported someone in a truck was trying to break the window at the beauty shop across from the restaurant.

9:20 a.m. A 420 Emporia caller said a man is behind the dumpsters, taking off his shorts and a woman is on her knees.

9:57 a.m. An Alcalde caller reported a man is at their house and is throwing things at their vehicles.

10:27 a.m. A San Pedro Shell caller said he was riding his bike when a man threw rocks at him.

11:19 a.m. A Tierra Amarilla caller reported seeing someone in a truck pick up a dog from the Family Dollar and put it in the back of the truck. The dog then jumped out and was attached to a leash and got drug behind the truck before getting loose.

12:25 p.m. A Medanales caller said her brother got into a fight with four people and they took the keys to his van and won’t give them back.

12:48 p.m. A death was reported in Ohkay Owingeh.

1:48 p.m. A Walmart employee was accused of embezzlement.

3:05 p.m. A Vallecitos caller reported his daughter who is eight months pregnant, hit a deer with her vehicle.

3:12 p.m. A caller said an ex-employee made a mess in the shop before leaving by tearing down the curtains and trashing the shop. Now she’s harassing the business on social media and threatening to hurt staff members.

3:19 p.m. A caller reported passing by the Santa Cruz Country Store and seeing two men fighting. She called back to say they stopped fighting and one left on a bike.

3:28 p.m. A Santa Cruz Country Store caller said her child’s father punched her in the face and fled on a bicycle.

4:11 p.m. A Velarde caller reported a vehicle hit a fence and rolled over.

4:29 p.m. A Velarde caller said she has a protection order against her neighbors and someone parked where she parked. She doesn’t want something to happen.

4:29 p.m. An overdose was reported on Cedar Avenue. Two doses of Narcan was administered.

6:20 p.m. A County Road 140 caller said a man and woman were walking and the man had a long gun. 

7:46 p.m. A Vista del Valle caller reported an ex-partner was released from the hospital and threw items all over and punched a hole in the outside of the house.

10:06 p.m. A Rio Arriba County Detention Center employee inhaled drugs and had to be transported to the hospital.

 

Speedway clerk gets ‘sauced’

July 4

12:18 a.m. A Calle Don Leandro caller said his brother punched his mother in the face after she refused to give him money.

12:52 a.m. A Days Inn caller reported someone keeps knocking on the door. 

12:58 a.m. A Megill Street caller said her drunk neighbor accidentally pulled into her driveway and when he was leaving, he accidentally ran over his friend. The man who was run over got back into the truck but was limping.

4:43 a.m. A Paseo Don Juan caller phoned 911 and whispered “send help.” The responding officer said everything was OK, the person had too much to drink and they were putting him to bed.

6:12 a.m. A vehicle was doing donuts in the Lowe’s Home Improvement parking lot and hit a pole.

9:36 a.m. A Center Market caller said a man has a crack pipe and foil in his hand.

11:37 a.m. A Medanales caller reported her son is having issues with another man over a vehicle and they might shoot her son tonight and use the Fourth of July as a way for people to think the gunshots were fireworks.

3:30 p.m. A caller said a man and woman are smoking drugs under a tree on Camino de Roberto and South McCurdy Road.

3:52 p.m. An overdose was reported on Tortilla Flats.

3:59 p.m. A Camino Vuelta caller found a foil filled with an unknown substance and wants to turn it over to police.

5:20 p.m. An overdose was reported in Medanales. Three doses of Narcan were administered.

6:32 p.m. A Hernandez caller said the neighbor went up to her daughter’s care and was harassing and threatening her.

7:05 p.m. Multiple marijuana plants were found growing in a yard on Race Track Road. They were removed.

9:56 p.m. A caller said the clerk at Speedway was very drunk and trying to fight with customers.

10:28 p.m. Two men were trying to fight each other at Allsups.

 

Suspicious characters

July 5

12:24 a.m. A caller reported his brother was drunk and got a ride with their father to Walmart. The brother was being disorderly and fired a shot into the air with a handgun.

1:11 a.m. An overdose was reported in Abiquiú.

4:51 a.m. A Santa Claran Casino Hotel caller said a person was seen on camera drinking multiple drinks before driving.

11:18 a.m. A caller was on a walk when he found several needles in the Tortilla Flats and Po Pay Avenue area. He requested that they be picked up.

11:25 a.m. A man was pushing a shopping cart full of hot dog buns near Wendy’s. The responding officer said he was an employee.

11:58 a.m. A caller said a man tore off his shirt, was yelling and throwing himself on the ground near Pizza Hut.

1 p.m. An El Guique caller reported the neighbor’s tenant tried to pepper-spray and tase her dogs. She said the tenant also sprays Clorox at them and goes to the fence and taunts them.

3:14 p.m. A pickup truck was on fire at the Santa Claran Casino Hotel.

3:31 p.m. A caller said a man had a knife in his hand and was near JoJi’s.

5:15 p.m. A caller reported her daughter’s friend is unresponsive; they have been at Abiquiú Lake all days and are on a trail.

5:51 p.m. A man at the Rio Arriba County Detention Center was hallucinating. A psyche evaluation was requested.

6:12 p.m. A Chimayó caller reported a drunk man was lying in the driveway.

6:24 p.m. A Megill Street caller said her mother was camping and a man was at her house, boarding it up and not letting her enter.

7:20 p.m. An El Rito caller reported an ATV rolled over and a woman possibly had a leg injury.

9:40 p.m. A caller said suspicious characters were walking around Calle Redonda and El Llano Road.

9:53 p.m. A Desert CV caller reported loud fireworks are setting off car alarms.

9:57 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a woman and man fighting in the road on Fairview Lane. The caller said the woman was running at cars.

11:59 p.m. A Chimayó caller said a man in a truck pointed a rifle at them.

 

Bad drug deal

July 6

3:32 a.m. A Calle Don Pedro caller reported a car is at the end of the road and the tires are spinning, but no one is near it. The caller thinks someone may have crashed.

8:57 a.m. A man was standing in the middle of the road near O’Reilly’s, flinging his arms around and acting “barbaric.”

10:23 a.m. Two children ages 5- and 6-years-old prank called 911. A deputy spoke to their mother and counseled them.

11:10 a.m. A man was harassing women at the Santa Cruz Country Store who were filling up at the gas pumps.

11:30 a.m. A La Joya Street caller said titles to several high-dollar vehicles and jewelry were taken from his shed. He thinks it may have been a relative because a key was used.

1:08 p.m. A caller saw a truck crash and flee on South McCurdy Road.

1:24 p.m. An overdose was reported in La Mesilla.

2:05 p.m. A caller said she paid a man $350 to do a job at her house and he changed his mind but won’t give her a refund.

2:39 p.m. An overdose was reported in Chamita. Two doses of Narcan were administered.

3:01 p.m. An overdose was reported on Calle Josefita.

5:01 p.m. An overdose was reported at Goodwill.

5:51 p.m. A Medanales caller who’s had an ongoing dispute with the neighbors said they like to attack her family at times. She saw them on the porch of their house and feels like they’re waiting for her relatives to come home to start a fight.

7:09 p.m. A North Prince Drive caller said his girlfriend broke his window and left on foot.

9:39 p.m. A man was arrested in Velarde after a caller reported he was fighting with his sister.

11:29 p.m. A Villa del Norte Apartments caller said there are people outside dressed like devils and he can see them from his window.

11:38 p.m. A Fairview Lane caller reported a woman attacked her after she tried to sell her drugs.

 

UPS driver threatened

July 7

4:59 a.m. An Ohkay Casino caller saw a man with several baggies of an unknown substance trying to get into a vehicle with a screwdriver.

7:44 a.m. A home on North Railroad Avenue was broken into.

9:16 a.m. A caller said he was working at the fireworks stand yesterday and his backpack was stolen from his vehicle.

11:25 a.m. An El Rito caller reported a man is threatening them via text.

12:50 p.m. A woman fell out of a chair at the Española Detention Center and claimed she couldn’t move. She was take to the hospital to be evaluated.

1:34 p.m. A West Chamisa Street caller said a bad check was written to them for $3,400.

4:32 p.m. An El Llano Road caller reported a man and a woman in a van go to her father’s house and steal items.

5:13 p.m. A UPS driver said he was doing deliveries when vehicle pulled up and tried to box him in. The driver pulled a gun and pointed it at him.

5:15 p.m. An ambulance was called after a man was found to be asleep at the wheel at Dairy Queen. Two doses of Narcan were administered and he declined medical care.

7:41 p.m. A Hernandez caller said a woman is on her property, getting into the trash.

10:31 p.m. A Speedway caller reported a man has been there for a while. He was there earlier and went in and threatened the clerks.

 

She needs her money

July 8

12:36 a.m. A caller heard the neighbors on State Road 76 cursing and talking about a Glock.

6:45 a.m. A caller said his Frito Lay truck broke down yesterday, so he left it at City Hall and when he went back to check on it, the window was busted.

12:35 p.m. A Capulin Lane caller reported a woman on a bicycle is at his brother’s house, breaking windows and yelling that she needs her money.

1:38 p.m. A Chamita caller said she has a business sign outside and the neighbors drove into the sign and damaged it.

2:07 p.m. A caller reported several people near Gallegos Scrap Metal are dealing drugs in the area.

2:17 p.m. An overdose was reported at Las Clinicas del Norte in El Rito. Two doses of Narcan were administered.

2:34 p.m. A Hernandez caller said he picked up a hitchhiker who offered to clean his house. He accepted the offer and the woman stole his debit card, power drill, a wooden cross and other assorted items.

3:31 p.m. A caller reported someone driving a Cadillac with a flatbed trailer with a tank is taking water illegally from the ditch on Indian Way and State Road 76.

4:28 p.m. A caller said she allowed someone to access her bank account to send her money, but now they’re using it as a business account and issuing checks and bouncing them.

5:24 p.m. A Fairview Lane caller reported people are inside the storage sheds and have tool boxes. They are trying to get into other people’s sheds.

5:44 p.m. A caller said a person in a car was road raging, flipping her off and telling her to get out of the car.

6:15 p.m. A Camino Cielo Grande caller reported her license plate was stolen.

7:56 p.m. A shirtless man was being belligerent with everyone outside Darren’s Place.

8:07 p.m. A man and woman were lurking around a property on South McCurdy Road.

10:02 p.m. A Calle Josefita caller reported his daughter’s boyfriend is drunk and at the house and threatened him.

10:26 p.m. A Jackrabbit Trail caller said there are people yelling and throwing rocks at passing cars.

10:39 p.m. A customer was threatening the manager at Speedway.

 

When girlfriends attack

July 9

7:43 a.m. An overdose was reported at the TA Clinic in Tierra Amarilla.

1:28 p.m. A caller said she needed an ambulance because she was seeing black dots and her hands started cramping.

1:39 p.m. A Pet Sense caller reported a person put a little tent on the side of the building and they want them removed.

2:07 p.m. A 420 Emporia caller said a woman is in the employee bathroom and they want her removed.

3:34 p.m. A La Paleta Bar caller reported there are two people in a vehicle and one is on the ground.

4:11 p.m. A Wendy’s caller said a man has been in the restroom for 20 minutes and won’t respond to knocking on the door.

5:49 p.m. A Fresh Budz caller reported a woman left a toddler in the vehicle with the windows down while she went into the store. She then started yelling at the child and said “shut up and stop crying.”

5:58 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man lying in the weeds near La Capilla del Santo Niño.

6:12 p.m. An Ojo Sarco caller reported their deceased uncle’s house was broken into.

7:42 p.m. A caller said people are hiding in the bushes near the Veterans Wall and they want a patrol.

7:50 p.m. A caller reported his girlfriend was attacking him.

9:06 p.m. A caller said it appears people are doing drugs in the area of Fairview Pharmacy.

11:19 p.m. An Española Hospital caller reported a man was discharged several hours ago but is refusing to leave.
