(SUNfoto by Lou Mattei) Española interim public safety chief Steven Branch (left) and Sgt. Miguel Maez (right) consult as officer Estevan Trujillo and other officers collect sheets and other blood-stained items May 9 from a broken-into room at the closed Arrow Motel on Riverside Drive. Maez said the owners of the motel, who live next door, noticed blood stains on the door and called police to investigate. Inside, officers found drug paraphernalia and began unrolling bedding soaked in blood — “lots of blood” that was “pretty fresh,” Maez said. He said police called Española and St. Vincent Hospitals to check if anyone had been admitted recently with serious injuries. “No luck,” he said. “But we’re going to process the scene anyway, just to be safe.”
