Police Blotter: Pan-Wielding Woman Doesn’t Take Kindly to Advice

The police blotter is published to give readers an abridged look at criminal activity in their community and neighborhood. It is simply an illustration of what local law enforcement, funded by taxpayers, must deal with daily throughout the Española Valley.

 Española Police officers, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies or State Police responded to the following calls:

  

It’s just a gas pump

June 19

1:20 a.m. A man called dispatch, asking if he could spend the night at the Rio Chama Chevron.

3:56 a.m. A Dixon caller reported the neighbor went over and asked for Narcan.

7:49 a.m. A Latilla Road caller said three people by the New Hope Church are on her property, threatened her and called her a stupid (expletive).

10:22 a.m. A North Riverside Drive caller thinks someone is breaking into her house at night and stealing her paperwork.

11:01 a.m. An officer was flagged down because a woman collapsed on State Road 76 and North Riverside Drive. She was transported to the hospital.

1:05 p.m. A Calle Delgado caller reported their officer was burglarized and keys to their vehicle and cellphone were stolen.

1:29 p.m. A White Rock caller said he’s on the Red Dot Trail and feels dehydrated.

2:40 p.m. A caller reported homeless people are setting up camp in an empty lot in Ranchitos Park.

3:38 p.m. An officer was requested because of a dispute between two drivers at the gas station near Domino’s Pizza over a gas pump.

3:37 p.m. A caller said someone approached him to report a person in a car at the Ohkay Casino was pointing a gun at people.

4:27 p.m. An Albuquerque caller reported her vacant home in Chimayó was broken into.

4:56 p.m. An Alcalde caller said there’s an illegal buck in the back of  Jeep with a trailer attached to it.

6:49 p.m. An O’Reilly’s caller reported a man behind JoAnn’s restaurant might be trying to start a fire.

8:42 p.m. A Medanales caller heard about 14 automatic shots fired in the area.

9:12 p.m. An El Llano Road caller said his 40-year-old son is getting in his face.

9:21 p.m. A Calle Duran caller reported two younger men were trying to move the air conditioning unit he just installed.

11:49 p.m. A Hernandez caller said a woman in a Jeep broke into the trailer he’s remodeling.

 

Drunk and wants to fight

June 20

12:33 a.m. An overdose was reported in Coyote.

1:33 a.m. A caller said homeless people were sleeping on the Tacos de Rio porch and she wanted an officer to ask them to leave.

7:07 a.m. A homeless man was passed out in front of the GRD Health building.

7:55 a.m. Ohkay Eagle Mart caller said a woman was in the restroom for 45 minutes and they had to chase her out. She then went to her car and was sitting there.

9:09 a.m. An Alcalde caller reported a fire at the neighbor’s house. 

9:33 a.m. A Santo Niño Lane caller said they can smell chemicals at a house when the windows are open and they think the residents are using fentanyl.

11:46 a.m. An Auto Zone caller reported a customer that’s broken down in the parking lot went in to use the restroom and made a mess. They think he was using drugs and asked that he be removed after he threatened an employee.

11:55 a.m. A caller said a truck is in the middle of North Coronado Avenue and Calle Serrano, impeding traffic. The driver was slumped over and very drunk, with a bottle of Importers in his hand.

11:58 a.m. A Walmart caller reported a woman was irate and threatening to hit employees.

12:27 p.m. A Villa del Norte Apartments caller said a woman was lying on the floor and was unresponsive.

1:09 p.m. A Pinch Penny Laundromat caller reported a woman left a newborn inside, unattended for 10 minutes and then left the child unattended in a car.

2:24 p.m. A Walmart caller said a woman who might be on drugs is near the pharmacy. She was sweating profusely and not making sense.

2:25 p.m. A caller reported a car was doing donuts on the side of the road near Bode’s.

4:09 p.m. A man went to RASO to file a report because his dog was stolen from the El Guique area.

4:27 p.m. A Chamita caller said a woman showed up drunk and is trying to fight the people at the house.

5:03 p.m. A Socorro’s customer reported an umbrella got picked up by the wind and flew into a customer’s windshield.

5:14 p.m. A Calle Loma caller requested a welfare check on his neighbor who usually walks his dog because he saw the dog running with a leash on. The man was found unconscious and barely breathing.

6:10 p.m. A man was found dead on N.M. Highway 17.

7:23 p.m. A woman was running from a vehicle that was following her near Northern New Mexico College.

7:27 p.m. Three people reported a truck driving recklessly and going into oncoming traffic in Hernandez. The truck crashed and rolled over.

7:38 p.m. A Buckman Road caller said they wrecked their off-road vehicle and the passenger’s chest hurts.

7:50 p.m. A Velarde caller reported a neighbor on which they have a restraining order, went to their gate and was harassing them.

9:02 p.m. An overdose was reported on El Llano Road.

9:21 p.m. A Hernandez caller said a woman keeps harassing her daughter via telephone.

 

Smoking in the arroyo

June 21

12:15 a.m. A Calle Culebra caller reported the neighbor is very drunk and his doors were open.

12:35 a.m. A caller said four young people were trying to instigate a fight at Kentucky Fried Chicken.

2:57 a.m. A North Paseo de Oñate caller reported someone was trying to break into her auntie’s house.

3:42 a.m. A caller said he watches Cook’s Home Center at night and can hear things breaking. He’s not sure if someone is in the building.

11:15 a.m. A Calle Redonda caller reported someone at the trailer next to them keeps dumping needles in their yard.

11:16 a.m. A Del Taco caller found a window open on the building.

12:18 p.m. A 15-year-old boy was getting physically and verbally violent with staff at the Española Hospital.

3:09 p.m. A caller said a car hit a construction cone and may have hit another vehicle in Dixon. When deputies caught up with the driver, he allegedly admitted to being on oxycodone and alcohol. One dose of Narcan was administered.

4:52 p.m. A caller was riding his bicycle on North Paseo de Oñate when he was hit by an SUV that fled.

6:06 p.m. A Romero’s Fruit Stand caller said he was looking for his dog and not paying attention to a customer. When he walked back to the business, the customer threatened to shoot the store up.

8:17 p.m. A caller reported a vehicle in the arroyo near Hernandez Elementary was smoking and they could see flames under it.

 

Fake money at Mickey D’s

June 22

12:04 a.m. A Calle de Pajarito caller said nine to 12 children were kicking her doors and breaking windows.

1:07 a.m. A Santo Niño caller wanted to speak with an officer about the neighbors smoking fentanyl and crossing into their yard.

1:43 a.m. A West Winesap Drive caller reported someone broke the window on the front door.

3:09 a.m. A North Riverside Drive caller said people are trying to break into his house; they are wearing masks and have guns.

7:42 a.m. An Avanyu Travel Center wanted to speak with an officer about a questionable transaction on her account.

7:48 a.m. Three needles were picked up from Tortilla Flats.

9:17 a.m. A Calle Loma caller said a woman was in the house and she’s not supposed to be there.

9:44 a.m. A Medanales caller wanted to speak with an officer about his fences and locks being damaged.

10:11 a.m. A Hernandez caller said a woman was trying to swing a frying pan at him. He said the situation started over an argument about which pan she should use and it escalated.

1:31 p.m. A Kennedy Loop caller reported her grandson was bit by a pitbull and is at the hospital.

3:45 p.m. A caller said there are two homeless people setting up camp behind the old Taco Bell.

3:46 p.m. A Big 5 caller reported his generator was stolen off the back of his RV.

3:53 p.m. A McDonald’s caller wanted to speak with an officer about a person who was trying to pay with a counterfeit $100 bill.

4:06 p.m. A caller said his 30-year-old son has been misbehaving and insulting him.

4:42 p.m. A caller reported her son physically attacked her.

4:56 p.m. A Calle Lucia caller said her license plate was stolen.

5:21 p.m. A North Riverside Drive caller reported two people at the house are trying to fight.

5:37 p.m. A fire was reported at the Velarde cemetery.

8 p.m. A Cordova caller heard a loud smashing sound at 5 a.m. and found the fence in the backyard is damaged.

10:46 p.m. A deputy tried to pull over a motorcycle in Ohkay Owingeh but it fled.

 

Picking on children

June 23

12:18 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a truck in the middle of the road near Home Run Pizza in Alcalde. The male driver was sleeping with his legs sticking out the window.

12:57 a.m. A McDonald’s caller requested a welfare check on a man in the bathroom that wasn’t responding and was locked in the stall. The man was unconscious and two doses of Narcan were administered.

1:34 a.m. A caller reported homeless people are camping in the trees next to El Pilar food truck. She thinks they are going to smoke fentanyl and it will go into her house.

7:07 a.m. An Española City Compound caller said someone approached him and gave him a backpack they found. When he opened it, he found it full of drug paraphernalia and wanted to turn it over to the police.

9:46 a.m. A caller reported a man stole a $600 vacuum from Lowe’s Home Improvement and is waiting at the bus stop near Freddy’s.

11:15 a.m. A St. Vincent’s Medical Center caller wanted help in locating next of kin for a man who was in critical condition.

11:27 a.m. An overdose was reported at At&T. One dose of Narcan was administered.

Noon A Walmart caller saw a man brandish a knife.

12:15 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man lying in front of the Sacred Heart Church.

12:40 p.m. A caller said five people are setting up camp under the trees near Wells Fargo bank.

1:01 p.m. A Chimayó caller reported her kitchen is on fire.

2:52 p.m. A Fairview Flowers caller said a man wearing a Halloween mask opened the door, looked around, then left.

3:48 p.m. A Walmart caller reported a man wearing a fedora went into the store carrying a BB rifle.

4:45 p.m. A Dollar Tree in Española caller said one of his customers saw a drug deal that just happened.

6:50 p.m. A caller reported people are going into the dumpsters behind Pet Sense.

6:57 p.m. A Lower San Pedro Road caller reported two men and a woman are harassing children.

7:36 p.m. A caller said a man is bloody and on the ground at Kennedy Loop and Po Pay Avenue.

8 p.m. An Abiquiú caller heard 24 gunshots — eight at a time — and a man yelling. The responding deputy said the men were scaring off coyotes and protecting their livestock.

8:49 p.m. A Saints and Sinners caller said a man tried to pull her husband out of the vehicle and get into it.

8:59 p.m. A 420 Emporia caller reported a woman broke at sprinkler at Pizza Emergency, then left.

11:36 a.m. A woman called to say her mother’s food was stolen from the fridge.

11:39 p.m. An Industrial Park Road caller requested officers because men with guns are possibly trying to “start things.”

 

Trick or Treat  in July

June 24

12:02 a.m. A Velarde caller said a woman jumped in front of her car and tried to wave her down. The responding deputy said the woman was bruised and said she’d been strangled.

3:01 a.m. A La Joya Street caller reported a truck was parked near a business with the tailgate down and they suspect the people in it were trying to break in.

9:55 a.m. A citation for illegal dumping was issued on Calle Lopez.

10:27 a.m. A State Road 76 caller caught a group of women breaking into her house on Thursday or Friday. She said they are targeting her handbag collection and have stolen about 30 on numerous occasions.

11:17 a.m. A caller reported a car crashed into her as she was changing lanes on the Santa Clara Bridge, then fled.

12:02 p.m. A Santa Cruz Country Store caller reported a man is dealing drugs in the parking lot.

12:29 p.m. A Hernandez caller said they went to drop off a man’s daughter and found him dead in his house.

2:14 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a woman and man slumped over in a vehicle at a gas pump at Allsups. The caller said the man might have a gun in his lap.

2:20 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a child who was running across North Railroad Avenue and went to a house on East Roman Drive. He was barefoot and wearing pajamas.

2:32 p.m. A woman went to EPD to file a report because her vehicle was broken into at Pet Sense and her title and money were stolen.

2:58 p.m. A caller said a woman in Velarde was bleeding from the mouth and a car was following her.

7:39 p.m. A woman’s death was reported in Ohkay Owingeh.

9:03 p.m. A Medanales caller said her nephew was at the house and fighting with people.

10 p.m. An overdose was reported at Tsigo Bugeh Village. Four doses of Narcan were administered.

 

Selling piñon and smoking fentanyl

June 25

8:17 a.m. A single vehicle rollover was reported in Medanales. The driver was outside of the vehicle, lying on the ground and complaining of head and neck pain.

11:11 a.m. A caller reported a person was by the Dollar Tree in Española, selling piñon and possibly smoking fentanyl.

11:34 a.m. A caller said they’re having an issue with a juvenile client who doesn’t want to go with his mother, who seems to be under the influence of something.

12:34 p.m. A woman’s death was reported in Chimayó.

1:08 p.m. A Lumberton caller said his motorcycle ran out of gas and he needs a ride to the gas station.

1:10 p.m. A Walmart caller found a purse with drug paraphernalia.

2:21 p.m. A caller said there’s a shopping cart full of stuff in the middle of the road at North McCurdy Road and Fairview Lane. They’re afraid the cart will cause an accident.

2:49 p.m. An Esparza Lane caller reported his welder was stolen from the side of his house after the fence was cut.

2:53 p.m. A Calle Don Alfredo caller said their nephew threw trash on their property and spun out, causing rocks to hit the house.

3:37 p.m. A caller reported someone is smoking in the dumpster at Pet Sense and they’re afraid the smoker will cause a dumpster fire.

4:43 p.m. The death of a woman was reported on Camino Don Jose Merced.

7:03 p.m. A home healthcare worker wanted to file a report because her client got aggressive with her when she went to visit yesterday.

7:47 p.m. A Calle de Pajarito caller said a woman and her children are coming around and causing problems.

9:22 p.m. A Calle Chavez caller reported someone is knocking on his window and scaring his children.

9:28 p.m. A caller said a woman is possibly taking her clothes off at the Ohkay Travel Center.

11:33 p.m. A Lowe’s Home Improvement caller reported a person is throwing a beer can.
