(SUNfoto by LyAnn Vigil) Española firefighter Nicholas Manges was one of four firefighters to assist in putting out a fire that erupted April 19 around 2:30 p.m. from the engine of the security truck in the Wal-Mart parking lot. Lt. Emery Baca, the incident commander, said the flames entered the passenger cabin, but firefighters had the fire out within about a minute and no one was injured. “We caught it just in time,” Baca said. He said the driver complained of a whining sound from the engine compartment that morning. Firefighters Jack Romero and John Wickersham also responded to the call.
