Police Blotter: Youth Really Wants to Be a Firefighter

(SUNfoto by Lou Mattei) A silver pickup truck driven by Juan Valdez, 80, of Española, rests on top of a camper shell Oct. 14 along Riverside Drive near the Red Door Coffee Shop. A police report states Valdez was making a right turn into the Red Door parking lot a when a sport utility vehicle struck him from behind, causing the truck to turn over once before coming to rest on top of the detached camper shell. The driver of the sport utility vehicle, JivanJoti Khalsa, 66, said she was traveling north and did not see the pickup prior to the collision. Valdez was transported to the hospital.
