Jennifer Gallegos, Española Tennis

Española won three team matches at the first weekend of district play, and the junior was instrumental to their wins. She was the decisive win against Los Alamos with a three-set victory in the 3 singles match. Against Taos, she won another match, reaching 15-3 on the year in singles. And her doubles team along with Olivia Suazo dropped just one game between four winning sets against St. Michael’s and Taos.

Cruz Martinez, McCurdy Baseball

As McCurdy started 4-0 in districts, Martinez highlighted the week from the mound, pitching a five-inning complete game where he struck out eight Peñasco batters and allowed two runs in an 18-2 McCurdy win. Martinez was a consistent offensive performer throughout the week, including a two-double performance against Questa.

Mateo Soveranez, Pojoaque Baseball

The Elks had a great week, winning three straight games. The senior team leader had three hits and two doubles against Española, then was the winning pitcher in a game against Moriarty with six strikeouts and three earned runs in five innings. He also reached base and scored a run in the second game of the doubleheader, one of 13 for Pojoaque in that game.

Estrella Tena, Española Softball

Española’s senior pitcher had a strong performance to grab victory for the Sundevils against Pojoaque. She threw 6.1 innings with six runs allowed, and had four hits with three doubles in the game.
