Española’s No. 2 singles player had another great week, leading the Sundevils to a second-place finish in the district. She won a singles match against Taos in the district semifinals, and won easily in her doubles match along with Nicole Velasquez. She put up a fight in the championship against Robertson, losing 6-4 in the second set.
James Johnson, Dulce Track and Field
Dulce’s athletic junior put up a strong effort at the Northern Rio Grande championships, taking first place in the 400 meters, and leading the Hawks to a win in the 400 meters. He also performed well in the javelin, where he finished second in the state a year ago.
Adrian Maestas, McCurdy Baseball
The Bobcat senior nearly completed a no-hitter against Questa to deliver a 200th career victory to his coach. He finished the final game with a complete game shutout on the mound, and overall in four games went 8-for-12 at the plate.
