Tana Lopez, Mesa Vista Girls Basketball
Lopez was the most valuable player at the Ben Lujan girls tournament as she led the Lady Trojans to the victory. She capped off the tournament with a 7-point fourth quarter in crunch time, part of a 20-point outburst in the tournament final. She scored another 20 points in the semifinal, shooting 8-for-11. And the sophomore started the tournament with 16 against Moriarty, finishing as a consistent scorer all weekend.
Tobias Velasquez, Pojoaque Valley Boys Basketball
The senior point guard was the hero in the Ben Lujan Tournament final. His three-pointer with 13 seconds remaining gave Pojoaque the lead, and ultimately sent the game into overtime. And with less than two seconds remaining, after three starters had fouled out, he came up clutch again with a game-winning layup that found the net. That was all part of a 19-point performance that included five 3-pointers.
Bailey Vigil, Dulce Girls Basketball
The Hawks junior guard led the team throughout the weekend as they came moments away from shocking everyone and winning the Ben Lujan Tournament. She scored 31 points in a fantastic first-round win over Wingate, including 12 field goals. In the final, she scored 16 points, including three 3-pointers, nearly coming away with the win.
