Jayden Duran, Española Boys Basketball
Yet again, it was Española’s senior guard cool as a cucumber, sinking two free throws to down Pojoaque and score a huge district win. That was just the cap on a great night for Duran, who drained four 3-pointers and finished with 23 points.
Analise MacAuley, Peñasco Girls Basketball
In addition to committing to play basketball in college, MacAuley had a big week on the court. She scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds in an impressive 24-point win over Questa — a highly-ranked team — then added 18 more as the Panthers downed Mora.
Santiago Martinez, Mesa Vista Boys Basketball
The Trojans have been cruising over the past month, now with 15 straight wins. The sophomore guard has been a big part of that, commanding the press defense. He scored 17 points in a narrow win over Mora, and continued leading the team in a bigger win over McCurdy.
Lauren Salazar, Pojoaque Girls Basketball
Salazar scored six of her seven points in the fourth quarter, with a pair of clutch baskets to deliver a win over Española. The senior’s first of those two tied the game with just over a minute left, and the second layup again forced a tie with 41 seconds left, ultimately sending the game to overtime where the Elkettes would come out ahead.
