The Pojoaque freshman wrestler is already one of the state’s best. At the regionals, he finished in second place in the 133-pound weight class, only falling to an opponent with a 35-2 record. He will look for revenge next week at state.
Kelby Enjady-Vigil, Dulce Girls Basketball
The senior transfer led a big week for the Lady Hawks, who took back first place in their district. In a win against rival Laguna-Acoma, Enjady-Vigil led the team on both ends, adding 16 points to pace Dulce.
Tana Lopez, Mesa Vista Girls Basketball
As the Lady Trojans continue their run through District 5-2A, Lopez had a monster game in a dominant win over seventh-ranked Questa. The junior scored 26 points to go with eight steals and six assists in the win.
Leandro Salazar, Española Powerlifting
“Chungus” continues to push new boundaries in powerlifting. At Española’s home meet, he first broke his own record with a 395-pound bench press. Then, he went even further, succeeding at 405 pounds, 55 pounds more than anyone else in the state.
