Gallegos was a force for the Trojans as they made the final at the Northern Rio Grande Tournament before losing to Pecos. His star performance was in the semifinal, where Gallegos scored 26 points against Dulce. His 18 in the final was more than half of the team’s total, and he added nine more in the first-round game against McCurdy.
Tana Lopez, Mesa Vista Girls Basketball
Lopez had another outstanding week, leading the Lady Trojans to a Northern Rio Grande Tournament championship with 25 points in the final, scoring 12 in the third quarter after the game started to get close. She added 14 points in the semifinal and 11 all in the first half of the first game. The sophomore’s leadership has led Mesa Vista to an 11-0 start, with no signs of slowing down.
Analise MacAuley, Peñasco Girls Basketball
Peñasco’s junior forward totaled 44 points and 26 rebounds over three games at the Northern Rio Grande Tournament, leading the Panthers to impressive results. They lost by just three to Mesa Vista after leading late, and ran past Escalante in the third-place game.
Luka Torrez, Escalante Boys Basketball
The junior forward and team leader showed out at the Northern Rio Grande tournament, leading the Lobos to a third-place finish. Torrez scored 25 points in the third-place game to upset Dulce, as the Lobos have now won five of their last six games after a 2-5 start.
