Mattie Dale, Dulce Girls Basketball
The Lady Hawks captured a district title with a win at Laguna-Acoma, and it was their senior center who led the way. Dale scored 19 points and had a number of offensive rebounds. She kept the team close enough in the first half to make a run, and led a comeback effort in the second half.
Jordan Gallegos, Mesa Vista Boys Basketball
The sophomore put a cap on his District Player of the Year season with a putback game winner in the district championship against Escalante. Mesa Vista’s center scored 14 points, 10 in the second half of the win. Gallegos’ breakout year has led the Trojans to 22 wins and the No. 4 seed at the state tournament.
Allison Paytiamo, Pojoaque Valley Girls Basketball
Pojoaque’s sophomore’s best games have come at the best time for the Elkettes. In the district tiebreaker game, Paytiamo’s 10 points and 13 rebounds, including nine offensive rebounds, led the Elkettes to a district title. Though Pojoaque lost the district championship game, Paytiamo still contributed eight points and eight rebounds.
