Neveah Cachora, Española Valley Track and Field

Española’s sophomore runner qualified for two events individually, and also was part of their sprint medley relay team. In the girls 3200 meters, she ran a 12:09 and placed fifth, giving the Sundevils their only medal.

Mikayla Calabaza, Pojoaque Valley Track and Field

A year after coming just short of medaling, Calabaza improved greatly. Her top discus throw of 124 feet, 2 inches won second place, just three inches shy of the winner. And in the shot put, she threw 36 feet, good enough for a fourth-place medal.

Carlos Garcia, McCurdy Baseball

Garcia took the mound for McCurdy’s state quarterfinals game. And though the Bobcats lost, Garcia’s contributions at the plate made an impact. He had two hits, including a double, and had an RBI and a run scored.
