Jennifer Gallegos and Olivia Suazo, Española Girls Tennis

Española’s top girls doubles team cruised through the individual tournament for a district championship. As the No. 2 seed, they avenged a loss earlier in the month to the top seed from Robertson, winning 6-3, 6-1 in the final.

Markus Martinez, McCurdy Baseball

The Bobcats’ senior leader had another great week both on the mound and at the plate, where he raised his slugging percentage to rank third in the state and 13th in the nation. Against Mora, he threw a complete game with two hits and one run allowed. And in three games, he went 7-for-8 with five extra base hits and six RBIs.

Ezequiel Nevarez, Mesa Vista Track

The eighth-grader for the Trojans had a strong performance at the district championships, taking first place in both the 800 meters and 1600 meters. He also placed second at 3200 meters to qualify for the state championships.

Caleb Roybal, Pojoaque Valley Baseball

The senior catcher highlighted Pojoaque’s regular season finale with a first-inning shot past the left-inning scoreboard. Overall, he finished 3-for-7 with two walks and four RBIs in the doubleheader.

Leroy Salazar, Escalante Track and Field

The Lobo senior continued his domination of the season, taking first place easily in both the discus and the shot put at the district championship. He won the discus by over 10 feet (at 106 feet, 2 inches) and by nearly six feet in the shot put (with a throw of 39 feet, 9 inches).
