Kaylee Martinez, McCurdy Volleyball
The Bobcats recorded a big win in straight sets over Coronado. Their sophomore setter was huge in that effort. Martinez recorded 14 assists and 10 aces in the match.
Ezequiel Nevarez, Mesa Vista Cross Country
The Mesa Vista boys took first place out of the entire field at the Meadow City Invite. Nevarez led the way as a freshman with a second-place finish, running the course in 18 minutes, nine seconds. He continues a strong season as the Trojans set their eyes on the state championship.
Jeremaya Roybal, McCurdy Football
After the starting running back went down, McCurdy’s quarterback put the team on his back in a win over Cuba. In addition to captaining the defense at safety, Roybal ran 23 times for a ridiculous 293 yards and three touchdowns. He rebounded from two early interceptions to control the game and secure a big victory.
Tayshaun Toya, Escalante Football
While the Lobos suffered a big loss on Friday night, Toya provided some late fireworks in the second half. The hard-hitting senior defensive back also sparked the team with a kickoff returned for a touchdown.
