I write in response to the letter to the editor from Elaina Martinez (letters to the editor, Rio Grande SUN, March 12, 2009)
I am proud of Mayor Joseph Maestas’ support of domestic partnerships. The law supporting domestic partnerships did not pass in the legislature this year because our own legislators, Rep. Debbie Rodella, D-Española, and Sen. Richard Martinez, D-Española, were among those who voted against it.
Kudos to Mayor Maestas for standing behind those of his constituents who would benefit from it. I too attend church with Mayor Maestas and I’m pleased to know someone I’ve helped elect is watching out for me and mine.
