(SUNfoto by Wheeler Cowperthwaite) Two people were transported Sept. 24 following a crash at Carr Lane and Riverside Drive. An Acura was turning left down Carr Lane when a red Ford Mustang crashed into the side of the turning Acura, forcing it into a small wall. Both drivers were transported to the hospital and both were towed. The driver of the Mustang, Jesus Gonzalez-Banda, was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated, possession of a controlled substance and distribution of a controlled substance, according to a statement of probable cause written by Officer Jeremy Apodaca. When Apodaca came on to the scene, Gonzalez-Banda was “messing with a clear plastic bag” with a white powdery substance, Apodaca wrote. Gonzalez-Banda allegedly told the officer the powder was cocaine, he had used it earlier in the day and he was selling cocaine to pay for surgery on his left eye for cataracts. Apodaca found another bag with 12 spindles of presumed cocaine.
