Don Juan de Oñate came to the Española Valley in July 1598 with ancestors of many of the families that continue to reside in our community today. Our families lived among our pueblo neighbors then and continue to do so today.
Our history is has many facets; some we may not understand with our 21st century perspectives. It is important our community is united in face of a divisive world led by outside interest groups that try to incite hate and fear amongst peoples who have lived together for hundreds of years. We are united by our faith in God who guides our families.
In 2018, when the City of Española’s mayor and certain members of the City Council led an effort to disband the Fiesta Council, our community came together to form a non-profit organization and raise an astounding amount of money to continue a tradition that will continue to move forward. This is the example of unity we need in our community now more than ever.
We ask that our community remains united in face of outside influences that try to create division in our community.
