In your article “Espanola Schools Security Cost”, board member (Leonard) Valerio states he knows for a fact that the school has more than a million dollars in surplus. This type of statement can send red flags to Public Education Department and legislative members that they can cut this school District’s funds by amount of this surplus in our school district.
What facts is Mr. Valerio basing his knowledge on? Has last year’s audit been completed that show this surplus available? Mr. Valerio should be careful in making such statements without facts to support them.
Mr. Valerio has stated he wants to be the next school board president but making these type of statements doesn’t make him El Preseidente material. Our school district could suffer financially by these type of irresponsible comments made by Mr. Valerio.
