Roberta Alice McDaniel, 91, Española, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2008 of natural cause’s incident to age and after having spent the last four year in the Espanola Valley Nursing and Rehab Center following a stroke.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Alice and Robert Montgomery; husband of 64 years, J.R. McDaniel; daughter, Linda; sister, Elsie and two brothers, Clarence and Edmund.
Roberta was born to Alice Lee and Robert Montgomery on June 7, 1917. She married James R. McDaniel, Dec. 7, 1940 in Santa Fe and moved to Espanola in 1945, where she lived for the rest of her life.
She worked for the New Mexican newspaper for several years and then worked for the Espanola School District until she retired in 1980. She was a member of the St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.
Mrs. McDaniel is survived by one son, James H. (Lovina) McDaniel, five grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 14 great-great grandchildren and two great-great-great grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Nov. 15 at 10 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Espanola on Bond St. A reception will follow at the Church. At a later date, her ashes will be interred at the Santa Fe National Cemetery alongside her husband.
