Sixto E. Martinez, 75,  a resident of San Pedro, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2009 following a lengthy illness.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Teodorita Martinez; raised like a son by Teofila Garcia; sister, Frances Herrera and brother, Thomas Martinez.  Sixto was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.  He loved to sing the songs You Picked a Fine Time to Leave me Lucille, Amazing Grace, and Green Beret.  There were many things he kept busy with when he had time such as camping, fishing and hunting.  He had 2 special Chihuahuas, Lolita and Bonita, whom he adored.  He always made time to catch his football team, the Dallas Cowboys and basketball team UNM Lobos.  When weather permitted he enjoyed gardening his tomatoes and chile but his pride was his rose garden.  He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.  Mr. Martinez is survived by his wife, Susie Martinez of San Pedro; daughter, Diane Trujillo and husband Harold Sr. of Chimayo; grandchildren, Hope and Harold Trujillo Jr. both of Chimayo; brother, Robert Martinez and wife Edith of Gallina; brothers-in-law, Joe Lopez and wife Barbara of San Pedro and Paul Martinez and wife Yvonne of San Pedro and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.  Public visitation was Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 6:30pm in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel at DeVargas Funeral Home with a rosary recited at 7pm.  Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, January 23, 2009 at 11am at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada.  Cremation followed services.  The following serving as pallbearers, Waylon Maestas, Rob Griego, Andrew Lopez, Edward Lopez, Ernie Martinez, Epifanio Martinez, and Eloy Jacquez Jr.  Honorary pallbearers named were, Hope and Harold Trujillo Jr.  The Martinez family has entrusted their loved on to DeVargas Funeral Home of the Española Valley.  505-747-7477 or www.devargasfuneral.com
