Softball: Moriarty vs. Española
The Sundevils are seeking a win in district play and an end to an 8-game losing streak. Freshman Amberly Ortiz is looking to find a groove in the circle while finding more consistent playing time, while Leah Vigil continues to lead the team with a stellar .667 batting average and 26 RBIs. Eighth-grader Gabriela Segura also has 15 stolen bases. Moriarty has lost four of their last eight games, including a loss to Pojoaque while giving up 18 runs, and 30 in the doubleheader. Española will really need to get their bats going to come away with a victory.

Baseball: Questa vs. McCurdy
The Bobcats can clinch another district championship, a streak that goes back to 2018 (when they played in 3A), by beating a team that sits at 2-11 this year. Carlos Garcia leads the team with a 1.629 OPS, while most of McCurdy’s lineup has above a .500 on-base percentage, which could mean a long day for Questa’s pitchers.McCurdy is still seeking consistency on the mound, with eight different pitchers facing hitters this year. Questa is led by female player Aliyah Santistevan, one of their leading performers this year with a .639 OBP.

Tennis: District Championship
A year ago, Española’s girls tennis team finished second in the district, one of their best finishes ever. With most of the team back, they look to get even further, and defeat (likely) Robertson in the final. The boys team, meanwhile, also has a chance to do well after bringing back all six from the team that finished fourth last year, they placed second in the pool play last week.

Track and Field: Peña Relays
Northern teams will head up to Peñasco for this weekend’s track meet, sure to produce exciting finishes. The Panthers’ distance runners Rochelle Lopez, Charnelle Gonzales and Jude Martinez should make their impact on the meet. Española will be there, as will Mesa Vista; the Trojans have Andres Valdez running well in sprints, and Kenneth Gallegos is coming off a win in the 800 meters.
