Football season starts this weekend! Here are the games to watch in Northern New Mexico
Thursday, August 17
Los Alamos vs. Espanola Valley
The Sundevils are looking to continue its winning ways after an impressive 6-4 season. Their first opponent is a tough one, a team that they have not beaten in 20 years.
Friday, August 18
Escalante vs. West Las Vegas
Escalante returned to the playoffs last year, and now hopes to get further. They have their requisite tough schedule for this season, starting with a road matchup with one of northern New Mexico’s top quarterbacks.
Pojoaque Valley vs. Navajo Prep
New coach Zeke Villegas has given the Elks a more forgiving schedule this year. They look to win their first game in two years against an Eagles team that similarly struggled in ’22.
Saturday, August 19
Hope Christian vs. McCurdy
McCurdy continues to make improvements, but their first game of the year is a doozy. The Huskies are a younger team this year, but still among the top in 3A.
