Football: Española Valley vs. Bernalillo

Española uncharacteristically came out flat in a loss to Los Alamos to start what they are hoping to be their best season yet. Time will tell how that loss looks in hindsight, whether it becomes the start of a strong season for the Hilltoppers, or is the kick that Española needed to get into high gear. But the offense needs to figure out how to move the ball better and get points on the board, and they will have a tough challenge against Bernalillo’s defense. Starting quarterback Alex Chavez is not expected to be available for the game.

Football: Bloomfield vs. Pojoaque Valley

The Elks shedded off the rust and the frustration of a winless season with a big win over Navajo Prep. Now comes the real test. The defending 4A state champion Bobcats started their season with a good win over St. Pius X that included three interceptions on defense. But the Elks are confident that they can make a statement against the top-ranked team. Quarterback Ethan Meloy and the two-headed backfield of Josh Urioste and Jonah Villegas lead the way.

Football: McCurdy vs. Hozho

McCurdy had a strong showing in their Week One game, holding a tight battle with Hope Christiant. Now comes a second game in the heat of their home field, but what should be a beatable opponent. The Wolves are starting a program from scratch this year, and won their first game against Legacy Academy junior varsity.

Volleyball: Coronado Tournament

The Leopards Den is hosting a new tournament this year, inviting local teams to start their season with a small-school tournament. Tierra Encantada, Tse Yi Gai and Shiprock are coming to town as the Leopards look to improve off their 15-7 season in 2022.
