Volleyball: Robertson vs. Pojoaque
The Elkettes start their season looking to repeat a run to the state semifinals. But they have challenges ahead in replacing a large group of seniors that were mainstays last year. The Cardinals took a small step back last year after an undefeated 2021 season, but still made it to the 3A state championship match, losing to St. Michael’s. Larissa Rodriguez and Tessa Martinez should be leaders for Pojoaque on the front row, and Joslyn Nuñez returns at setter.

Cross Country: Del Valdez Invite
Española plays host to the newly-renamed meet in honor of the late Del Valdez. Runners will take the track on Española’s unique three-lap hilly course that always proves a challenge. Look for Daniel Sanchez to make an impact, he injured himself at this race last year after winning in 2021. And Mesa Vista freshman Ezequiel Nevarez is another boys contender to watch.
Football: Española Valley vs. Escalante
The local rivalry returns to action this weekend, with both teams riding a bit of momentum. The Sundevils finally added some points with their explosive run game, while Escalante ran all over Tohatchi for 58 points. But the pressure is on the Sundevils to prove they can beat a school with about one-eighth the total enrollment.

Volleyball: Tohatchi vs. Escalante
The Lobos have a new look this year after a 20-2 regular season in 2022 ended in disappointment at the state tournament. Escalante loses stars from that team, including all-state setter Emma Maestas and outside hitter Brycelyn Martinez. Returning in the front row are Hannah Lopez and Alani Yeahquo, while libero Jayden Macias and Felice Baca head the back row.
