The Española Valley boys basketball team has reached the finals of the state basketball tournament for the first time in school history.
That is two local high school basketball teams left in the state tournament. The Española Valley boys and girls basketball teams have qualified for the Class AAAA semifinals and play March 11 in the University of New Mexico’s Pit.
The Española boys team beat Grants 55-52 March 10 in a game that was not decided until the waning seconds. The second-seeded Sundevils face third-seeded Albuquerque Academy at 6:30 p.m.
The fourth-seeded Española girls team dispatched the rival Los Alamos Lady Hilltoppers 51-41 March 9. The Lady Sundevils face top-seeded Kirtland Central at 1:15 p.m.
