Editor:
I recently did two significant things: 1) bought a huge (.17 acre) lot in your area and 2) subscribed to the Rio Grande SUN. As the former resident of 14 years of a small town in west Texas, I have been reading small-town newspapers for a long time.
The editor of that paper was a friend of mine, who it seemed to me, spent his whole tenure there, trying to manufacture issues and causes which might justify the purchase of his paper. It was not journalism.
I write to compliment you on publishing a paper that seems perfectly suited to the community you serve. While there are many issues which surely cause dismay, and even controversy, a judge being judged, a successful coach being fired, a disappeared hospital administrator, police indiscretions and the list goes on. I do not look forward to the weekly issue of problems in the county, but I do appreciate the quality of your reporting, and the concern for good citizenship it represents.
That’s all. Just thanks.
