I am writing regarding the way the police and jail system works here in New Mexico, at least in the part of the Rio arriba County and Santa Fe County. They seem to lose paperwork or don’t submit anything on people they arrest, especially if they are immigrants. They treat them like dirt and are lost in the jail system especially if they do not speak English or don’t have anyone to find out what is happening to them from the outside.
Though we do speak the English language we still get the run around when fighting for one of our family members because of racist people who are working in our system. We need to all stand together and fight back for our Spanish heritage and not allow them to treat us in this way.
We are all immigrants in the U.S. because if you look back to your own background, we all come from another place. The only people I consider real U.S. citizens are Native Americans, because they have been here for ages.
