When is the Española School Board going demand that the last three years’ school audits be completed? This school board has not had one audit completed since they came into office. As a taxpayer I feel short changed.
The only excuses I have heard is that Epsañola School District fiscal staff blames Cariños and Military Academy fiscal staffs for late audits. This is unacceptable and School Board members should demand to know who are the responsible parties and hold them accountable. Board members should bring auditors and all fiscal staff together and find out where the problems are occurring, and give time lines to get audits completed.
If Board members cannot get the answers then the state Education Department should come in and take over the financial operations of the school district. We have seen what has occurred at the Jemez Mountains School District, could this be happening here too? Completing these audits is essential and it is the responsibility of the School Board to make sure that these audits are completed soon. No more excuses!
