Earlier this month heavy flood waters and erosion destroyed the largest acequia in the small village of Cundiyo, leaving over half the community without water for their fields and crops.  The community was left with a major problem.

With the aid of the Public Works Department in Santa Fe County and the Chimayó Conservation Corps the acequia was restored. With so much negativity by the media about our youth, it sure was a wonderful  sight to see these young adults working rapidly and diligently on restoring our 250 plus year acequia.

Kudos to this organization comprised of young men and women from our valley that teaches our youth the importance of cultural preservation. The organization, including its executive director, Suellen Strale, is to be commended for its promptness and remarkable work ethic of these individuals.

Let us highlight the positive contributions being made by the youth in the Chimayó valley.
