Rio Arriba County youth shone at the national 4-H shooting competition June 23 to 26 in Grande Island, Neb., capturing individual and team prizes.
Rio Arriba’s shotgun team placed first at the state shoot with members Ariel Perraglio, Leah Schmitz, Angela Schmitz and Enriquez Jaramillo. Rio Arriba’s compound archery team also took first prize at the state shoot, with members Michael Schmitz, Amanda Sandoval, Seth Linville and Justin Sandoval.
Justin Sandoval placed fourth as an individual in the field round competition, second in 3-D competition, and second overall for the entire competition.
The New Mexico team as a whole came in fourth place after four days of shooting. The compound archery team placed third in field round competition and fourth in the FITA target-shooting competition.
The compound archery team finished fourth overall in the shooting competition.
