ALFRED MARTINEZ, 84, a resident of Nambe, passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 18, 1924 to Juan B. Martinez and Modesta Garduno Martinez in Salida, CO. Alfred served in the US Army Infantry in WWII the China Burma India (CBI) theatre and later as a combat NCO during the Korean War. He was also a 53 year member of the Carpenter’s union Local 1353. He worked in the construction industry throughout Northern New Mexico including Zia Company and Johnson Control at LANL. In addition to his parents, Alfred was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Emilianita (Emily) G. Martinez; sister, Predy; brothers, Epimenio (Pimi) and Isabro (Chuck) Martinez; parents-in-law, Fermin Garcia and Margarita Valdez Garcia; brothers-in-law, Conception Garcia, Daniel Scheick, Frank Torrano and sister-in-law, Inez Garcia. Mr. Martinez is survived by his children, Alfred Martinez Jr. and wife Kareen; Margie E. Martinez-Majka and husband Jim; Alex A. Martinez and Rodney D. Martinez; grandchildren, Danielle M. Lopez, Jacinto and Maureen Martin; step-grandchildren, Inger and Ashleigh Oldenburgh; brothers and sisters, Leona Torrano, Dorothy Vigil and husband Rudy; John Martinez and wife Lois and Eldora Scheick; sister-in-law, Judy Martinez and brother-in-law, Mariano Garcia as well as numerous nephews, nieces and their extended families. Public visitation was Sunday, November 16, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home with a rosary recited at 2:00 p.m. A second rosary was recited on Monday, November 17, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nambe. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic in Nambe. Burial to follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
