Antonio M. “Tony Green” Roybal

Antonio M. “Tony Green” Roybal, Age 89, of Española, passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2008. He was preceded in death by his wife Celina; daughter Luella; parents, David and Carlota; and brother Benigno. He was retired from the Los Alamos National Laboratory after 30 years of service. Tony was a World War II veteran and a recipient of the Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf cluster for wounds received in battle in Europe. He served as board member of the New Mexico Selective Service for 18 years and served as a former Española City Councilman. He was a lifelong parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus parish in Española and a member of the Holy Family Society. He is survived by his sons, David R. Roybal and wife Diana of Albuquerque, Lorenzo L. Roybal and wife Laurie of Erie, Colorado, Reuben R. Roybal and wife Monica of El Rancho and Chris Roybal and wife Edwina of Española; nine grandchildren and two great-granddaughters; brothers, Dan Roybal and wife Carlota; Ted Roybal and wife Sally, and Ralph Roybal all of San Pedro; sisters, Claudina Serrano of San Francisco, California; Stella Quintana and husband Willie of San Pedro; Angie Salazar of Española.  Public visitation was Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at 6:20 p.m. at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Española with rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. also at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Española. Burial followed at 1:00 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Randy Roybal, Jason Roybal, Gabriel Roybal, Nathan Roybal, Armando Lucero, and Benny Roybal. Honorary pallbearers include Amy Roybal, Amanda Roybal, Valerie Herrera, Rachel Roybal, Renee Roybal, Riley Jane Robertson, Micaela Alicia Herrera, Dolores Vigil, Lee Trujillo, Earl Myers, and Mel Martinez. The family of Tony Roybal would like to recognize Angelica Canales and Erlinda Garcia who provided him with excellent in-home care.
