Tony H. Garcia

Tony H. Garcia, longtime resident of Los Alamos, passed away Monday, December 1, 2008.   He was born on October 9, 1917 to Damian and Sofia Garcia, in Espanola, New Mexico.  He served in the Army Air Corps during WW II, and worked at the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory where he retired in 1982 after 34 years of service.  He was active in the Knights of Columbus where he served as a fourth degree Knight for many years, and was a Life Member of the American Legion and a member of The Immaculate Heart of Mary parish for 60 years. Mr. Garcia was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years;  Marie P.V. Garcia, and is survived by a loving family including;  his sister Juanita Rutledge of Albuquerque; his son Dr. Roland Garcia and  wife Esther of Olney, Maryland; two granddaughters,  Marie Payne and husband Eric,  Paulette Garcia of  Baltimore, Maryland and great- granddaughter Sophia  from Sterling, Virginia and other relatives. Tony was loved and respected by all his nephews and nieces. He enjoyed playing golf, hunting and meeting his friends and retired colleagues for coffee every morning, and will be dearly missed. Recitation of the Rosary was held on Thursday December 4th at The Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Los Alamos, and the Mass of  Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday at  the same church with interment following at Guaje Pines Cemetery in Los Alamos.
