MARIANO GARCIA— Passed away on Friday, December 5, 2008. He was born on July 3, 1915 to Pedro and Adelina Garcia of Los Luceros.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Polly Miera; brothers: Polito, Patricio, Alfonso and Benito Garcia; a good friend raised like a brother, Avelino Espinosa.
He is survived by his sister, Frances (Samuel) Gonzales; many nieces and nephews.
Mariano proudly served his country with the United States Army 7th Armory Division Company B, during World War II. He joined the service on June 6, 1942. He was stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky. From there he was transferred overseas to England. He was in combat in France, Holland and Belgium; on the German border he captured five German Soldiers. He was discharged on May 3, 1945. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Sharp Shooter metals. He retired in California and returned to Santa Fe to enjoy his retirement.
A Rosary was recited Tuesday, December 9, 2008,
7 p.m. at Berardinelli Family Chapel. A Mass was celebrated Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at Our Lady of Guadalupe with burial following at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
