Española Police have received several reports in the past week about a credit card scam, according to Deputy Police Chief Larry Ham.
Officers responded to several complaints from people who received telephone calls telling them their credit cards had been misused and that the callers need their credit card information to verify that they are speaking to the correct customer.
Ham said the customer then gives the caller (in this scam a recorded message or a person) their credit card information and then, a few minutes later, their credit card account is accessed and money withdrawn.
Police advise that you should never give out your credit card information to anyone over the phone, unless you know to whom you are speaking.
