Harold C. Lujan,

age 75, a resident of Los Alamos passed into the arms of the Lord on Saturday, January 10, 2009 surrounded by his loving family.  At an early age Harold helped tend the family farm in Jaconita until he was called to serve in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.  After his tour of duty, he returned to New Mexico with the desire to be a barber.  He graduated Barber College in Pueblo, CO, and came to Los Alamos in November 1956 where for 52 years cut hair of many of the townspeople.  He was always very proud to let all know that he was from Los Alamos.  In October 2008, he was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, know as Lou Gehrig’s disease.  He is survived by his two daughters, Sheila Jaramillo and husband Raymond of Belen, Kelly Naranjo and her husband Richard of Los Alamos and grandchildren, Michael Naranjo, Christopher Jaramillo and fiancé Deanna Arrey whom is a special family friend, both of Los Alamos, Deborah Englert and her husband Matthew of Phoenix and Vanessa Jaramillo of Belen.  He is also survived by Ella Lujan, long-time friend, companion and lover.  Siblings, Toby Lujan and wife Virginia of Santa Fe, Claudinia Perea and husband Ben of Bernalillo, Mary Augustine of Albuquerque, and many other loving family and friends also survive him.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Tobias and Asencionita Lujan; sister, Flossie Jaramillo; niece, Angela Lujan-Ogle and Ruby Lujan, mother of his children.  Harold knew no stranger and all were welcome in his barber shop for something to eat or drink or for a game of chance.  In 2000 he decided to semi-retire and sold his business of more than four decades.  Afterward he worked three days a week for Ted Armijo of Ted’s Barber Shop and the two become good friends.  He loved fishing, camping and hunting as was evidenced by his buffalo, oryx and elk trophies.  When colder weather set in, he was always ready for a “matanza”.  He would slaughter cows, sheep, goats and pigs.  He was always generous with the meat and the full freezers of family and friends showed his generosity.  Before his passing he made sure that his sons-in-law and grandsons knew this age old tradition.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.   Public visitation will begin on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos, rosary will follow at 7:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.  A celebration of his life will be held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Hall immediately following the mass.  Burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Michael Naranjo, Christopher Jaramillo, Jeremy Sandoval, Mark Casaus, Hal Hutquist and Gabriel Romero.  The family of Harold C. Lujan has placed their trust in DeVargas Funeral Home of the Espanola Valley.
