Two Rio Chama men were charged for shooting and stabbing another Rio Chama man Sunday night, according to State Police.
Eddie Salazar, 34, and George Valdez, 45, were at Salazar’s house partying with their cousin Stacy Salazar and her boyfriend Henry Gonzales, 34, when a fight broke out and either Valdez or Salazar shot Gonzales once in the arm with a handgun, State Police Sgt. Chris Valdez said.
Either Salazar or Valdez also stabbed Gonzales two or three times, Valdez said. Valdez admitted to police he fired a gun to “settle down” the fight but did not admit to shooting Gonzales. At this time, neither suspect has admitted to causing Gonzales’ wounds, Valdez said.
Salazar and Valdez left the house after the incident and were stopped going 104 miles per hour on Highway 84, Valdez said. Both were covered in blood and held for questioning by State Police. Emergency personnel separately responded to Stacy Salazar’s 911 call and flew Gonzales to St. Vincent Hospital for treatment.
The Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s Department charged Valdez, the driver, with driving under the influence, careless driving and child endangerment because a small child was in the car, Valdez said. State Police charged both men with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and tampering with evidence.
Salazar was being held at Rio Arriba County Jail on $10,000 bond, according to jail staff. Valdez has been released on bond.
