Police Blotter: Gangster Rapper Wants To Know If Cold War Has Ended

    Española Police officers, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies, State Police officers and Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police responded to the following calls:

Teens Beat Up Mom

Monday, Jan. 12

    • 1:10 a.m. — A Prince Drive caller said he was jumped and had his wallet stolen by a man and his friends who had given the caller a ride home. Police took a report.

    • 10:07 a.m. — A State Road 76 caller said her ex-boyfriend was calling her at work, and she didn’t want to lose her job. She went outside to throw out the trash, and he was outside harassing her. The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department responded to the call.

    • 1:16 p.m. — A Rio Arriba County Road 41A caller said six or seven people standing in front of his neighbor’s house were armed with bats, a four-foot pole, and a hammer. They were arguing with the neighbor through the screen door. Officers were at the house for a similar situation a few weeks before, the caller said. One suspect tried to pull the neighbor out of the house. Police took a report.

    • 3:03 p.m. — A man incarcerated in Clayton Prison in Union County said someone was using his debit card at ATMs in Española. He agreed to have paperwork faxed to police.

    • 7:39 p.m. — A County Road 39 caller said her 17- and 19-year-old daughters beat her up. Dispatchers could heard one daughter in the background yelling, “You don’t need a license plate number, I’m going to punch you in the face.” The caller decided to get a restraining order instead of making a report.

    • 7:51 p.m. — A County Road 103 caller said his aunt told him there was a man, who was wearing camouflage, holding a stick and pretending it was a rifle, trying to hide. The aunt told dispatchers she saw some lights a few minutes ago and could see lights again. The hidden man was found and detoxed.

Neighbors’ Weights Look Familiar

Tuesday, Jan. 13

    • 10:41 a.m. — A Highway 84 caller said she had been living with her aunt and cousin until the previous day and asked them to hold onto her food stamps card. After she moved out, they refused to give it to her. No report was wanted.

    • 12:23 p.m. — A Chaparral Lane caller said his set of weights was taken, and now the neighbors had a new set sitting in their house that he thought were his. Police took a report.

    • 2:53 p.m. — A caller said a man sitting down behind Toby’s Sports was drinking and then fell over and was attempting to get up. He was detoxed.

    • 4:46 p.m. — A State Road 581 caller said her son was injured during the Columbine shooting in Colorado and is very psychotic. The male refused medical attention.

Morning Meth Fumes

Wednesday, Jan. 14

    • 7:25 a.m. — A County Road 101 caller said his neighbor had a methamphetamine lab and he had been smelling it for the past few days in the morning. Police couldn’t find any meth lab.

    • 10:48 a.m. — A woman called 911 from the Income Support Division office and complained that a public bus refused to pick her up because she had a service dog with her. She added that the dog might have been injured because the driver closed the door on it while she was walking up the stairs. Officers did not take a report, noting that the woman was mentally unstable.

    • 1:28 p.m. — The same woman called from the Española Park and Ride to complain the bus driver wasn’t letting her and her dog on the bus, stating she needed immediate assistance. Police took a report for documented information.

    • 3:30 p.m. — The woman with the son injured at Columbine called again to report her son was stalking her; he was driving slowly toward her near Allsup’s. He was taken to Española Hospital to be evaluated.

    • 11:22 p.m. — A caller said a man threw a rock and a car jack at her sister’s car outside of Club Lumina and broke the window. No report was taken.

    • 11:59 p.m. — A Private Drive 1625 caller said he was “a gangster rapper that has been all over Albuquerque.” He called a second time and asked if the Cold War ended and asked whether someone could take his picture so that he could “be known and be normal.” No report was taken.

Political Connections Fail To Scare Cops

Thursday, Jan. 15

    • 12:43 a.m. — A North Prince Drive caller said her son-in-law broke her window. The man told police that Rio Arriba County Magistrate Judge Alex Naranjo was his neighbor and a friend of the family and was going to help him. He was arrested anyway.

    • 8:42 a.m. — A Guachupangue Road caller requested her juvenile son be removed because he is disrespectful and doesn’t go to school. She said he had previously pulled the phone from the jack and broken it and told her to get out of his house because someone was coming to pick him up. The call was transferred to a different agency.

    • 2:47 p.m. — A caller said a highly intoxicated man was urinating behind Walgreens. He wasn’t found.

    • 4:07 p.m. — A Shoe Department employee said someone walked out with a pair of shoes. She later advised 911 dispatchers that the man fled in his socks and didn’t take anything. The suspect told police that it was his boss who tried to steal the shoes, but they didn’t get away with anything. He was arrested for driving under the influence.

    • 6:39 p.m. — A North Prince Drive caller said he just got home and found his VCR missing and his stepson intoxicated. The call was transferred to another agency.

    • 7:45 p.m. — A Private Drive 1302 caller said her ex-husband was served with divorce papers and a restraining order that day and was “not very happy.” She wanted police to patrol in case he tried to come by her house, but warned officers to use caution because she had a loaded rifle in her house.

Revenge Sought

Friday, Jan. 16

    • 9:28 a.m. — A Calle Sierra Vista caller said her neighbor cut her tree. The code enforcement office was contacted.

    • 4:44 p.m. — A caller said a hitchhiker on State Road 68 stole his wallet. The caller said when he dropped her off at the Chevron station she denied taking the wallet, and she jumped into a truck with a group of men. Police couldn’t find the woman.

    • 8:53 p.m. — A Private Drive 1073 caller said she called the Sheriff’s Department earlier to report that some men were shooting guns, and now they were mad that she had called and were in her yard yelling and threatening her. No report was taken.

Saturday, Jan. 17

    • 7:58 a.m. — A Middle San Pedro Avenue caller said someone took 12-and-a-half yards of base course from his driveway. Police took a report for larceny.

    • 10:13 a.m. — A McDonald’s caller said two people had been in the handicapped stall for quite some time, and she believed they were doing narcotics. They were gone when police arrived.

    • 3:24 p.m. — A Walgreens employee said some people were trying to pay for a prescription with a credit card, and after it was declined they fled. Police took a report for shoplifting.

    • 7:30 p.m. — a Big Rock Casino employee said a man was stealing vouchers that didn’t belong to him from the slot machines and cashing them out. Police took an informational report.

Doorknob Theft Questioned

Sunday. Jan. 18

    • 10:48 a.m. — A State Road 76 caller said a man was trying to steal her doorknob, and he threw something on the door, scratching it. She said he wasn’t at the house but goes there at night when he knows she isn’t home. Police determined no one was trying to steal the doorknob.

    • 11:18 a.m. — A Montano Lane caller said a man at his uncle’s house accused him of stealing a gun from his vehicle. The man told the caller that if he didn’t return the gun he was going to “bury” the caller. No criminal activity was determined to have occurred.

    • 7:45 p.m. — A Motel 6 caller said a man was very angry with maintenance over money and wanted his money back. No report was taken.

    • 8:57 p.m. — A County Road 56 caller said his wife was refusing to give him his wallet. He said he wanted to leave, and she didn’t want to let him. She could be heard yelling in the background, and then the caller canceled the request.

    • 10:01 p.m. — A Big Rock Casino employee said the suspect in the theft from the previous day returned. The previous report was supplemented.

    • 10:03 p.m. — A caller said she picked up an ex-boyfriend on South Orchard Drive to take him to Allsup’s, and he was getting “verbally violent” with her. She returned him to his house, and he didn’t want to get out of the car. Then his aunt came out and started fighting with her. Police took a report.
