JACQUELINE “JACKIE” LAW, 79,

a resident of Velarde, passed away on Monday, January 5, 2009. Jackie was a longtime rancher’s wife, homemaker and loving mother. She was the first 4-H leader of Rio Arriba County with her 4-H club in El Rito. She was also the co-founder of the Velarde Youth Group which originally started the long time tradition of lining the Velarde highway on Christmas Eve with luminarias. She established the Velarde worm farm, where many of the youth spent their summers working. She was also a member of the Ladies Group from Velarde and Dixon where she enjoyed their monthly luncheons. Jackie loved painting, crafts and was a strong supporter and chaperone of the Mesa Vista FFA Group. Mrs. Law is survived by her husband of 61 years, Harold “Bear Tracks” Law; children, Aaron Law and wife RoseMarie of Pojoaque, Jimmy Law and wife Glenna of Belen, Connie Lujan and husband Robert (Andy) of Velarde, Bruce Law and wife Rhonda of Belen; brother, Leroy Ponder of Oregon; 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Public visitation was Thursday, January 8, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home with a devotional service following at 6:30 p.m. Funeral service was Friday, January 9, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. also in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home. Burial followed at 11:00 a.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Heath, Travis, Justin, Chase and Colter Law, Dwayne Lujan and Lincoln Hill. Honorary pallbearers named were Tarla Hill, Katie and Crystal Law, Tiffiney and Elizabeth Maestas, Janet Barela, Desiree and Courtnay Law and Barbara Candelaria.
