Sister Angela Martinez, 90,   passed away on December 18 in

Amarillo, Texas, after a lengthy illness. Sister Angela was born on January 16, 1918 in Coyote, NM. She entered the community of the Franciscan Sisters of Mary Immaculate as a Postulant in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1937, and began her novitiate at St. Francis Convent in Amarillo, Texas on June 12, 1937. She made her first Profession of vows on July 31, 1939 and her Perpetual Profession of vows on July 31, 1943 in Amarillo, Texas. Sister Angela served in various places in Texas, New Mexico, Costa Rica and California until 2005, when she retired.

   She was preceded in death by her parents,

Preciliano and Ignacita Martinez; brothers, Andres, Elias, Guillermo, Vicente, and Facundo Martinez. Sisters, Genoveva Olivas, Aurelia

Salazar, Angelica Roybal and Minnie Vigil.

   Sister Angela is survived by two brothers Eloy Martinez, Sr. of Santa Cruz and Zebedeo Martinez of Española; sister, Julia Archuleta of California, and many nieces and nephews.

   A rosary was held on Friday December 19 at the St. Francis Chapel in Amarillo, Texas. The funeral mass was held on Saturday, December 20 in the St. Francis Chapel with burial following at the Llano Cemetery in Amarillo, Texas.
