The Española Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s Department, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police and State Police responded to the following calls:
Numchucks Brought To School
Monday, Jan. 26
• 8:48 a.m. — The Mesa Vista High School principal reported that a 13-year-old came to school with numchucks, bullets and a knife. His parents picked him up and police took a report.
• 6:24 p.m. — A Private Drive 1038 caller said her ex-boyfriend broke a window on her house, and as he was leaving her driveway a rock struck her in the eye. She didn’t know if he threw the rock or it was propelled by the vehicle’s spinning wheels. She said she would make a report later.
• 7:43 p.m. — A Rio Arriba County Road 75 caller said the woman whose house he was at just wanted him to leave, and the closest place he could go was Farmington. He put down the phone and yelled at someone, “Babe, talk to her.” The line was disconnected and the call was referred to Jicarilla Apache Tribal Police.
Dog Reclaimed
Tuesday, Jan. 27
• 11:37 a.m. — A caller said her younger brother, a known heroin user, was at her elderly mother’s Hindi Avenue residence, and she was concerned he was trying to get money from her. Police found an outstanding warrant for the male, but couldn’t locate him.
• 12:06 p.m. — A Papi’s Pizza employee said an ex-staff member was refusing to leave the area and disputing his pay. The caller advised the man to come back at 6 p.m. and speak with the manager but he refused. The man left before police arrived.
• 6:13 p.m. — A caller said his ex-girlfriend told him a man had his dog, and he saw it and verified it was his. He said he had pictures proving it was his dog. The man reclaimed his dog without incident.
• 8:41 p.m. — A caller said a woman almost caused an accident by throwing bottles at her truck while they were driving near Allsup’s in Española. At one point while the cars were stopped the suspect got out of her car and hit the caller with her hand. Police took a report.
Neighbor Makes
A Dump
Wednesday, Jan. 28
• 7:29 a.m. — A caller said a man and woman, who were parked in the middle of Indian Way, looked like drug users and might have been casing houses. Police couldn’t find them.
• 12:58 p.m. — A State Road 519 caller said her neighbor was dumping liquid fecal matter onto her property. No report was taken.
• 8:41 p.m. — A State Road 76 caller said that when she went to get a key from her safe, she noticed that some rifles and jewelry had been removed. No report was taken as the woman was going through a divorce and her ex-husband had a right to the property.
• 8:44 p.m. — A County Road 176 caller said someone was calling and texting to say he was going to beat him up and burn his house down that night. Officers advised both parties not to contact each other.
Going Ballistic
Thursday, Jan. 29
• 12:25 a.m. — A County Road 41 caller said some dogs were barking near his house. He said this was an indication that someone must have been in the area, and he would not be responsible if he shot someone. No report was taken.
• 7:25 a.m. — An Una Ala Methadone Clinic employee requested that a pair of ex-clients be removed from the premises. They were dispersed.
• 9:23 a.m. — The State Road 519 woman called again, saying the neighbors were dumping the contents of a five-gallon bucket that they had used as a toilet in her yard. She said the neighbor came out the previous night and started yelling at her. The Sheriff’s Department transferred the call to the state Environment Department, as it was determined to be an environmental issue.
• 1:35 p.m. — The son of the State Road 519 woman called State Police this time, saying the neighbor dumped fecal matter in the yard. He said the neighbor wanted to “draw the reporting party out of the house” to attack her and told his mother she would “rub her face in” the feces. Police took a report.
• 2:16 p.m. — The State Road 519 neighbor called State Police, accusing his neighbor of criminal damage to property. Police took a report.
• 3:45 p.m. — A caller said a group of juveniles and a lot of West Siders were causing a commotion at the Holy Cross cemetery. They were dispersed from the area.
• 3:58 p.m. — A County Road 194 caller said he wanted some people removed from his house. After the line was disconnected, 911 dispatchers called back and a drunk-sounding man hung up. The dispatchers called again and a different man answered, saying he had a fight with a girl but she left to go to Kansas and no officers were needed. Police discovered that the woman had left the house and everything was okay.
• 7:17 p.m. — A woman calling from the Rio Chama Chevron said she didn’t know what her name was or what was wrong with her, but someone gave her brownies and later told her they put something in them. Officers checked to make sure she was okay.
• 8:28 p.m. — A Starlighter Loop caller said his girlfriend’s son was “going ballistic” and hitting everyone. No report was taken.
• 9:35 p.m. — A Foster’s Bar employee said a man punched him in the face and shoved a customer. The employee wanted officers to make the man aware that he was not welcome at Foster’s.
• 10:05 p.m. — A Big Rock Casino employee said a very drunk man, who had returned four times after being asked to leave, was loose in the Casino. The man, who was so drunk he couldn’t remember where he parked his car, was detoxed.
Park and Fight
Friday, Jan. 30
• 10:35 a.m. — A Chama caller said he wanted to attend a public meeting but a guy who had a restraining order against him would be there. No report was taken.
• 3:52 p.m. — A caller said a drunk man at the Park-and-Ride lot was threatening to fight anyone who was there, but no one was there and he hadn’t fought anyone. He was detoxed.
• 6:05 p.m. — An Española Hospital employee said a man, who was brought in because he “may have something in his anus,” was being combative. The hospital decided to admit him and contact police if he got out of control.
• 7:58 p.m. — An Española Hospital employee said a man who had been discharged was hanging out in the waiting room harassing people. He disappeared into the bathroom, and then was advised by security to wait for his ride outside.
Holdup joke
Saturday, Jan. 31
• 5:18 p.m. — A caller said two men outside Wal-Mart tried to sell her a switchblade. Police took custody of the switchblade and dispersed the two black market salesmen.
• 5:39 p.m. — A caller said two men and two women were rolling “a real nice set of wheels” on Upper San Pedro Road. They couldn’t be located.
• 5:47 p.m. — A MarIguana Skate Shop employee said a man who “had real nasty teeth” and a woman came into the store and asked to look at a butterfly knife. The man then approached the caller and told her it was a holdup. The woman told the caller it was a joke, and they left. Officers were advised to be on the lookout for their truck.
Irate Dog Owner
Sunday, Feb. 1
• 9:52 a.m. — A North Yucca Lane caller said his son broke down the door and was out of control.
• 12:17 p.m. — An Española Animal Shelter employee requested that two females who were yelling and cussing at her be removed from the shelter.
• 4:13 p.m. — The Española Animal Shelter employee called again, saying the sister of one of the irate females from earlier was refusing to leave. The woman had not come back for her dog after the time limit elapsed and needed to pay fees, but refused. She left the area.
• 5:55 p.m. — A County Road 41 caller said his tenants were being belligerent and his daughter “goes off being vulgar.” The caller kept “threatening to call a senator,” 911 dispatchers noted. One person was arrested by police.
