The Truchas postmaster accused of assaulting a customer outside the post office last month admitted to assaulting another woman Feb. 13 at Mountain View Elementary, according to the Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s Department.
Ardy Sanchez, 37, of Cordova, allegedly came up behind fellow Mountain View parent Martha Trujillo after a school assembly, deputy Paul Valdez said.
“Sanchez walked up to (Trujillo) and said, ‘I’m tired of you talking (expletive) about me,’ and shoved her from behind,” Valdez said. “(Trujillo) got an injury to her ear . . . I think she was embarrassed that had happened at the school.”
Sanchez was using a napkin to cover the wound when Valdez arrived on the scene, and had blood on her shoulder and the back of her clothing, Valdez said. Valdez questioned Sanchez later, at which point she admitted to shoving Trujillo, he said.
“(Sanchez) claims (Trujillo and others) have been talking about her and saying things trying to get her in trouble with her job and her marriage and so on,” Valdez said.
Valdez said he has not charged Sanchez with misdemeanor battery but intends to; he advised Trujillo to get the injury documented at the hospital and to get a restraining order.
Española School District Superintendent David Cockerham refused to comment on the matter, although he said he was “very aware” of the incident.
Sanchez has also not been charged in the Jan. 31 assault at the Truchas Post Office, in which Sandra Martinez, a 49-year-old Los Alamos National Laboratory control analyst, claims she suffered injuries that cost her over $4,000 in medical bills.
Witnesses of that incident gave conflicting accounts, according to the deputy’s report. Martinez’s nephew Jude Montoya told police Sanchez punched, kicked and knocked Martinez to the ground before Sanchez’s husband Jessie pushed Martinez’s head to the ground. Ardy Sanchez said Martinez grabbed her by the hair, and Jessie Sanchez broke up the fight, according to the deputy’s report. Both Sanchezes claim that before the assault, Martinez accused Sanchez of sleeping with her husband.
“I did exchange words with her,” Martinez said last week. “She’s having an affair with my husband. Everybody knows it. Yesterday he was full of hickeys. She told me she was going to break my (expletive) face.”
Martinez said Sanchez tackled her from behind and knocked her to the ground before Jessie Sanchez kicked her. She had a CAT scan at the hospital to check for bleeding in her brain, Martinez said.
“It’s not a simple battery when you have $4,000-some hospital bills in one day,” Sanchez said. “I’m praying she will not do it again to another human being.”
No charges have been filed in that case. Sanchez refused to comment for this story.
